Better Late, But Never His Again novel Chapter 129

With that, she turned and stormed out, completely ignoring the pain in her injured leg.

Julian's hand froze.

He stood rooted to the spot, his brows furrowing deeply as the hand gripping her wrist subconsciously loosened.

It was Professor Quigley.

Evelyn spoke from behind him, her voice trembling and laced with tears. "Julian, I had no idea that letter was so important to Hazel. I swear I didn't do it on purpose..."

Julian turned to look at her. His expression was no longer as gentle as before, his brows knitted together, and his voice dropped low. "Didn't you even glance at the sender's name before throwing it away?"

Julian had never spoken to her in that tone before. Even when she made mistakes, he had always been soft-spoken.

But now, over a single letter for Hazel, he was looking at her with such intense scrutiny.

Her tears fell even harder. "Julian, I really didn't know it was Hazel's. I honestly thought it was delivered to the wrong place..."

Julian gave her a deep look but didn't say another word.

He turned around and strode out after Hazel.

Evelyn stood alone in the living room, watching his back disappear out the door.

The tears were still streaming down her face, but her eyes had turned completely cold.

She had thrown that letter away on purpose. Of course, she saw the sender's name. The recipient was clearly addressed to Hazel, and the address was this house.

She had even ripped it open to read it. The letter opened with an affectionate greeting, calling her 'Hazel,' and it violently stung her eyes.

She didn't bother reading any further. She just tore the letter in half and threw it straight into the trash.

That was something Hazel's mentor left for her. Something Evelyn Vance didn't have. So why did Hazel get to have it?

When Julian rushed out the door, he saw Hazel crouched on the ground beside the dumpsters on the street.

The dumpsters in the neighborhood were large, dark green metal bins. The lid was thrown open, and she had already ripped the garbage bags out from inside.

Packaging boxes were scattered everywhere. She sat slumped amid the pile of garbage, her hands frantically tearing through the mess.
