Hazel was dragged back to the villa by Julian.
Neither of them spoke on the way. The interior of the car was so quiet that only the low hum of the engine could be heard.
She leaned against the seat back, staring out at the rapidly retreating streetscapes with a blank expression.
Julian gripped the steering wheel, his jaw clenched tight. His gaze was dark, and his aura was oppressive, as if he were reining in a monstrous fury.
Hazel felt a sudden urge to laugh. She wondered what Julian was feeling right now, seeing his beloved woman's body being discussed like that on the internet.
The car parked in front of the villa. Julian killed the engine, instantly threw his door open, pulled Hazel out, and shoved her forward without a hint of hesitation.
"Get inside." Julian's voice was cold and hard, as if commanding a criminal.
Even during their past arguments, Julian had never used a tone like this with her. He was clearly furious.
Hazel glanced at him and walked inside without any expression.
Julian followed close behind. The door shut, and the sound of the deadbolt locking was exceptionally clear in the quiet night. He stepped right in front of her, looking down at her from his taller height.
"You will stay in this house for the next few days. You are not allowed to go anywhere."
Hazel looked up at him, her gaze calm. "Are you restricting my freedom?"
Julian's face grew even colder, his voice grating out from his throat. "You know exactly what you did, Hazel. I never thought you could be so vicious. In my heart, you were always so kind. Do you have any idea how huge of a blow this has dealt to Evelyn?"
Hearing these words, a mocking chill flared in Hazel's chest.
He was doing it again—condemning her blindly without even bothering to ask for her side of the story.
He was always like this. He let his preconceived notions take over, completely convinced it was her fault.
Once, she would have felt sad, wronged even. Now, there wasn't a single ripple in her heart. Those emotions had been exhausted long ago.
"What happened on the internet has nothing to do with me," Hazel said calmly. "If you don't believe me, go investigate. Dig into exactly what happened, and take a good look to see if your precious Evelyn is truly the gentle victim you think she is."
Julian frowned. "What do you mean by that?"
Hazel gave a faint smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Nothing at all. It's getting late. I should go, or Professor Finch will worry."
She bypassed him to leave, but before she could take a full step, a hand clamped down hard on her arm from behind. The force yanked her back, making her stumble and nearly fall.
