Carter looked at Vera, who stood frozen in the doorway with her phone still raised. Suddenly, the puzzle pieces clicked together in his head.
Last night, Audrina was supposedly blind drunk, and today, Vera was banging on doors at the crack of dawn.
If Vera had nothing to do with this setup, he would literally unscrew his own head and let her kick it around like a soccer ball.
Alright then. She wanted to play?
He leaned against the doorframe, shoving his hands into his pockets. His previously bewildered expression vanished instantly, replaced by a cocky, unapologetic sneer—faster than flipping a page in a book.
Carter looked her up and down, a crooked smile forming on his lips as he drawled sarcastically, "Is Ms. Yates looking for Zachary and his fiancée? Didn't I hear he's still out of town on business? You, on the other hand..."
Since when did a mistress show up to catch the fiancée cheating?
He spared her the humiliation of saying the second half out loud.
Vera choked on her words, awkwardly lowering her phone. "I... I..."
Her lips moved, but not a single sound came out.
Carter casually added, "Besides, Zachary is way too vanilla for us. My buddy and I like to live on the wild side. He wouldn't be able to keep up."
His gaze flickered meaningfully over to Sebastian, wiggling his eyebrows to hammer home the implication.
Sebastian merely lifted his gaze, shooting him a deadpan glare.
The message was clear: *Are you out of your mind?*
Carter dodged the look, pretending he hadn't seen a thing.
...Come on, he had to make it convincing.
Vera bit her lower lip, her face turning an ugly shade. This was absolutely not the scenario she had planned for.
Carter blocked the doorway, nodding at her phone with an innocent smile. "Did you catch anything interesting on camera? If not, I wouldn't mind giving you some seriously exclusive footage. Oh, and if I'm not front and center on the trending headlines later, I'm going to be very upset."
With that, he made a grand show of reaching for his belt buckle, only for Sebastian to firmly clamp a hand down on his arm to stop him.
Vera stood in the doorway looking like a complete idiot, so utterly humiliated that she wished the floor would swallow her whole.
She took a hesitant step back. "I... I must have the wrong room."
"The wrong room? So, who did Ms. Yates think was in here?" Carter pressed mercilessly. "You were screaming Audrina's name when you were pounding on the door... Who exactly did you think she was sleeping with?"
There was no way she was going to tell the truth.
