Bait for a Gentleman novel Chapter 72

Audrina vaguely caught the word "room" through the haze and saw Roland give a nod.

She fought desperately to stay awake.

After Ken left, the private room was left in a mess of half-empty plates and leftover drinks.

Roland stood up and walked over to Audrina, feigning concern. "Audrina, you really need to work on your alcohol tolerance. You young folks need more practice. Still, you did well tonight. Mr. Larson is quite pleased."

Audrina gripped the edge of the table to stand. Her legs felt like jelly, and her brain felt like it was stuffed with wet cotton.

"I'll take you back," Roland said.

Audrina stumbled back a step, leaning against the wall for support. "Thank you, Mr. Ladd, but I need to go to the restroom first."

Roland noted how flushed her face was and how her eyes were already losing focus.

He tilted his chin up, his tone overly gentle. "Alright, go ahead. I'll wait for you in the lobby."

Audrina grabbed her purse and turned to walk out.

The corridor was long and dimly lit. She staggered along the thick carpet, her footsteps weak and uncoordinated.

She tried to dig into her purse for her phone, but her fingers refused to cooperate, failing entirely to pull the zipper.

She finally made it to the restroom. Leaning against the wall as she turned the corner, her knees suddenly buckled—

And she crashed right into a firm, solid chest.

Even with her fading consciousness, she instantly recognized that familiar scent of cool woods.

Sebastian immediately grabbed her arms, stopping her from sliding to the floor. He frowned. "Why did you drink so much?"

Audrina tilted her head up, her blurry vision slowly bringing his face into focus.

It was really him...

As if grabbing onto a lifeline, she gripped his sleeve, using every ounce of her remaining strength to squeeze out two words:

"Help me."

"What happened?"

Audrina gasped for air as the alcohol hit her in overwhelming waves.

She bit down on the tip of her tongue, forcing herself to stay somewhat lucid. "A dinner. Ken Larson from Prestige Group... he practically poured drinks down my throat. Roland Ladd is waiting outside... he's supposed to take me to Ken's room."

As soon as the words left her mouth, her legs gave out again, and she started to collapse.
