Bait for a Gentleman novel Chapter 6

Audrina had already turned her head to look back through the small window of the private room door. From this angle, no one inside could see them.

In the room, the group surrounding Zachary and Vera was busy cheering them on. Audrina calmly took out her phone, snapped three photos, and then turned the screen off.

"Why the silence?" Sebastian asked.

She stared at the scene unfolding inside. "Just admiring the surprise you gave me. Knowing Zachary for three years, I never realized he had these kinds of moves."

Audrina had flown back three or four times, and Zachary had visited her twice. In bed, Zachary always rushed through it like he was checking off a chore; he had never kissed her with this kind of passion.

She used to think he was just tired. Turns out, he was. He was already completely satisfied somewhere else; of course he was exhausted.

But seeing this with her own eyes just made her sick.

"So what do you want to do about it?" Sebastian asked, phrasing it as a statement rather than a question.

Audrina pulled her gaze away and met his eyes. "Take a guess."

Sebastian instantly understood the underlying challenge in her words. He glanced toward the glass window, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "So you're acting out of spite?"

"Take it however you want," she replied.

Sebastian’s eyes shifted back from the window to her face, mapping her features in slow motion, from her brow bone down to the corners of her lips. "Ms. Monroe, are you actually crazy, or just pretending?"

Their breathing synced into the same rhythm as Audrina took a step forward. "Me? I'm exactly like you."

As soon as the words left her mouth, Sebastian took off his glasses. It was as if a layer of disguise had been stripped from his eyes. His pupils were pitch-black and fathomless, like a midnight ocean devoid of moonlight.

Audrina tilted her neck up, a smile spreading from the corners of her eyes to her lips.

Sebastian’s gaze locked onto her mouth. That vivid red possessed an allure that never seemed to fade, making it impossible to look away.

"So am I in the queue now?" Sebastian asked.

Audrina’s heartbeat still hadn't settled. She turned her head, looking through the glass window once more.

Zachary was sitting back up on the sofa. Vera was touching up her lipstick, the others were drinking, and everything looked completely normal.

Audrina curved her red lips. "Mr. Hawthorne, don't tell me, when you said you don't settle, you were actually waiting for me?"

Sebastian’s burning gaze sank deep into her eyes. "Take a guess."

He tossed her own words right back at her.

Outside the window at the end of the hall, the city's neon skyline sprawled out in the night. A million lights blinking amidst the chaotic bustle. But Audrina remained trapped in his shadow, her eyes curving as she left the question unanswered. "I should go back inside."

With that, she took two steps forward, not waiting for a reaction before pushing open the door to the private room.
