It was a sleek, orange supercar. Its low-slung, aerodynamic lines and roaring engine commanded the attention of the entire street. Not a single person could walk by without turning to stare.
He leaned casually against the driver's side door, looking down at his phone.
It was the end of the workday, and employees were pouring out of the building in droves. They couldn't miss the ostentatious display.
Several people already had their phones out, snapping pictures.
"Isn't that the guy from the magazines... Sutton, right? He's here to pick someone up?"
"He has to be waiting for Ms. Monroe. Oh my god, flowers in the morning and a personal chauffeur in the afternoon? What a dream boyfriend."
"And he's gorgeous, too. Rich and handsome. Audrina must have saved the world in her past life."
The bright orange car practically blocked the main entrance. Zachary leaned against it like he was posing at an auto show, even flashing a charming smile at the cameras capturing the spectacle.
Audrina furrowed her brow.
What the hell was he doing?
She hadn't expected him to pull a stunt like this.
Now that they were broken up, he suddenly wanted to play the devoted lover? Showing off like a peacock just so the entirety of Kingshire could see.
She took a deep breath, walked out, but didn't get in the car.
"What are you doing here?" she demanded.
Zachary's smile didn't waver. He reached out, attempting to loop an arm around her shoulders.
Audrina instinctively stepped back, dodging his touch. "Just say what you came to say."
He leaned in, dropping his voice. "If you don't get in, your coworkers are going to think we're fighting. Remember our agreement."
Audrina glanced out of the corner of her eye.
A group of her coworkers lingered near the entrance, their envious gazes practically burning holes into her back.
"I'm just here to pick you up from work. No ulterior motives," Zachary said, his tone smooth and placating. "Besides, Waldo has a checkup next week. He wants you to go with him."
He held out his phone. On the screen was a photo of a medical chart confirming the appointment was indeed next week.
