RH-A blood wasn’t as rare as the so-called “panda blood”, that super-rare Rh-negative type, but it was still pretty uncommon.

Growing up, Natasha was the only one with RH-A blood among her teachers and classmates. She never expected Roxanne to share the same blood type as her.

She remembered asking her mom, Sandra, about it when she was a kid, but Sandra never said a word about Roxanne having, the same blood type.

‘Did Sandra lie to me?’ Natasha wondered, her mind spinning. ‘But why would anyone bother lying about something like this?’ she thought, feeling even more baffled.

When Natasha got home, she collapsed onto her bed, feeling completely drained. All the energy she had managed tø recover from her sleep had been sucked right out of her by the blood donation.

Her face was ghostly pale, and her head was spinning. She was way too tired to even think about cooking. She ordered takeout, ate, and then crashed straight into bed. Three days slipped by just like that.

Natasha spent those days focused on recuperating. She cut her workload in half, went to bed early, and woke up early, too. Of course, she didn’t reach out to Jared at all.

Even at the office, she went out of her way to avoid him, careful not to cross paths or risk any awkward encounters. She was worried that if his desire got the better of him, he would eat her up alive right then and there.

But what really surprised her was that Jared didn’t contact her either. ‘Did he already find someone new?’ Natasha wondered, feeling a stab of jealousy.

‘But I haven’t gotten my meds for my condition. If he really had a new fling now, who am I supposed to go to for my meds when my symptoms flare up in the future?’ she thought.

After mulling it over for days, Natasha finally made up her mind. She was going to hit up Jared for her meds. ‘It’s the weekend tomorrow, after all, she thought.

Natasha didn’t head home after work on purpose. Instead, she stayed back at the office and texted Jared.

[Are you free tonight?] This was actually the first time she had taken the initiative to ask him out since they had started their friends-with-benefits arrangement.

After she hit send, she felt a wave of nerves crash over her. She was gripping her phone, her palms damp with cold sweat. She just hoped he would text her back soon.

But to her surprise, half an hour had passed, and he still hadn’t replied. Natasha started to feel uneasy. ‘It’s weird. Jared always texts back within seconds whenever I message him.

‘What’s going on with him today? Why’s he taking forever to reply?’ she couldn’t help but wonder.

‘Maybe he’s just busy… and didn’t see my message?’ Natasha tried to convince herself.

Natasha got up and headed to the CEO’s office. She stood at the door, hesitating whether she should knock or not. Suddenly, Leigh’s voice sounded from behind her. “Ms. Whittier, why are you still here? Mr. Rundell’s already left the office.”

Natasha paused for a moment, then turned around. “He’s… not here? Guess I’ll try again tomorrow.”

‘So he’s not even in the CEO’s office, Natasha thought, feeling a little let down. ‘And I ended up waiting for him all this time for nothing, she muttered to herself.

“But are you free tonight?” Leigh asked, stepping up to her.

Natasha was surprised. “Yeah, why?” she asked.

Leigh said. “The secretarial team’s having a team dinner tonight. If you’re free, you’re welcome to join us.”

“I…” Natasha was hesitant. This was the first time her coworkers had invited her out since she started working in the CEO’s office. If she refused, it would be pretty rude to Leigh.

“Come join us! Who knows, maybe Mr. Rundell will drop by later,” Leigh said, flashing a warm smile.

Hearing that Jared might show up, Natasha nodded and said, “Sure!”
