Sawyer:
Being out in the open, surrounded by so many people waiting for me to show them my lycan form, was a first for me.
I mean, I had addressed crowds before.
There had been plenty of moments when I'd given statements. I'd even been a president.
But not once had I stood among my own kind or faced anyone as strong as I was.
For the first time, surrounded by Alphas, Betas, and even Omegas, I felt at home.
One thing was certain.
I wasn't leaving this place.
There was no way these people were going to get rid of me.
Everyone had arrived at the designated location, including Alpha Ron and Alpha Byron, who apparently thought he was going to reclaim his crown.
Once I became the Alpha King, that asshole would be the first to go.
Rosetta was there too, along with everyone else.
Of course Eugenia was hiding somewhere now that she could not face me.
The vast grounds were right beside Rosetta's mansion.
After this, I would head toward the mountain top to face the monster.
To fight the monster alone.
"Your Highness, will we finally be able to sleep peacefully at night after today?" one of the mothers asked, still carrying her sick child in her arms.
From the bags beneath her eyes, I could tell she hadn't slept properly in months.
They were all gathered around me, while the higher-ranking wolves stood off to one side.
They were dealing with the same problems, but things were different for them. They had nannies to care for their children.
"I promise you, after today, you will never have to face something like this alone again. There will be no more curses on your children."
I paused as the crowd erupted into cheers, except for the small group who clearly didn't like me.
My gaze lingered on them, and I did my best not to crack a cocky smile.
"In fact," I continued, "after tonight, you will no longer be afraid to walk through the woods alone when the full moon rises. You will transform freely and run beneath it, just as werewolves have done for generations."
My words were met with another round of applause.
People exchanged glances and nodded, clearly recognizing what I was willing to do for them.
To be honest, I wanted them to remember me as the king who had risked his own life to prove himself.
The fact that they were already addressing me by titles meant something.
"But you need to understand that the monster isn't our only problem right now," I commented, briefly glancing toward Rosetta.
Previously, she had been reluctant to go against the monster.
But today, she hadn't said a single word.
