Accidentally Pregnant By My Alpha Best friends (Madeline) novel Chapter 891

Baxter:

Before Sawyer could transition, I rushed forward and shoved him aside.

"What the hell is wrong with you, Sawyer? You weren't like this."

That was all I had to say before everyone suddenly fell silent.

Even from the corner of my eye, I saw Madeline tilt her head.

Sawyer steadied himself and stared at me. The way he blinked made it seem like he was trying to hold back tears.

"Oh, so now you remember what I used to be like?" he asked, stepping closer.

"The Baxter who left me behind, the one who didn't care about friendship, is standing here today, ready to defend someone else. Where was this undying loyalty back then?" Sawyer hissed, pointing at my chest.

I could tell the tears were threatening to fall, but he kept fighting them back.

"I didn't leave you, Sawyer. I did not betray you!" I yelled, fully aware that everyone around us was confused about what we were talking about.

"Really?" Sawyer shouted as he stepped back. "I was hiding. I was waiting for you by the door, Baxter. Do you know what happened when the nurse came and dragged me away? She told me you had betrayed me. She said you had left, taken the boat, and gone back home while leaving me behind with those monsters."

When Sawyer's voice cracked, my heart broke too.

"Wait, what is going on here?" Madeline asked, trying to step between us.

But I raised a hand, signaling for her to stop.

This conversation was long overdue.

“Sawyer!”

So I said his name very calmly.

I could tell he was enraged from the way his fists clenched and his eyes stayed fixed on me.

For those few moments, everything else disappeared. It felt like it was just the two of us again, two nine-year-old kids standing face-to-face.

"Why didn't you come for me then?" Sawyer asked, his voice suddenly sounding almost childlike.

"I did. I wanted to. I promise. I was on my way, but I got caught," I explained, placing a hand on my chest.

Sawyer shook his head in disbelief.

"You're lying. If you'd been caught, they would've brought you back. I would've seen you." he sniffled.

"Do you know what happened? They put me in there and mocked me, telling me that you had left me," Sawyer continued.

I immediately raised a finger to correct him.

"Because that's what they do, Sawyer. My parents had arrived. I ran into my own mother while I was trying to get to the back gate."

I watched him slowly tilt his head.

"I promise you, I was coming back for you. But my mother told me she would go inside and bring you out herself," I mumbled, pointing toward nowhere behind us.

Sawyer's eyes widened as he finally began putting the pieces together.

"She was evil. It's sickening to think she was playing with people's lives like that. When I got into the car, she told me I had to finish my food before she went back to get you. So I did. Soon after, I started feeling dizzy. I passed out, and when I woke up again, I was back in the werewolf world."
