After finding out that the monster was dead and seeing Baxter there, I realized I had to go back home.

An idea had struck me at that very moment.

There was no real reason for me to stay there anymore, so I immediately returned home. Obviously, I did even see Madeline before leaving.

I tried to tell her everything was fine, though I wasn't sure she believed me.

Either way, I needed to see Rosetta.

The moment I arrived, I found her with Bodhi.

"You watch cartoons. Everything will be okay," Rosetta told him before rising from the couch.

She did a double take when she noticed me standing in the room.

"What is going on? Is everything okay?" she asked, hurrying toward me.

I glanced at Bodhi before looking back at her.

"He's fine," she assured me, probably assuming he was the reason I'd rushed home looking so unsettled.

"I need to speak with you," I told her, taking her hand and leading her toward the bedroom.

"Take care of him, okay?" Rosetta called out to the maid before I ushered her into the room with me.

"What is going on?" she questioned, clearly confused.

I held both of her arms and pulled her closer.

Her eyes widened, and her nose scrunched slightly.

Her father was asleep right now, which was the only reason I could be this close to her without being interrupted.

"I, Alpha Byron, accept Rosetta as my mate."

The moment the words left my mouth, her eyes widened even further.

I didn't give her enough time to process what I'd said before gently shaking her arms.

"Come on. Accept me as your mate," I insisted.

"No, Byron. What are you doing? Why are you in such a hurry?" she asked, pulling herself free from my grasp.

"No, it's..." I trailed off.

I needed to think quickly.

"I don't know what's going to happen out there, but I want to be with you," I admitted.

She tilted her head.

"What do you mean, what's going to happen out there? Is something wrong? Are they losing?"

She immediately stepped closer and placed her hands against my chest, staring up at me with those beautiful, innocent eyes.
