My wolf was trying his best to take complete control, but he knew I was still awake inside him.

For now, though, he was the one in control.

After shifting, he began moving toward Lena, Madeline's wolf.

At first, I fought hard to force us back into human form because I was afraid he might attack her.

But that didn't make any sense. If he'd wanted to hurt Madeline, he could have done it while she was still human.

My thoughts were still my own. I could read Axe's thoughts now, but he couldn't read mine.

And after listening to what was going through his head, I realized something.

That bastard loved Madeline just as much as I did. He was simply carrying a lot of resentment toward her.

Madeline backed away as she watched Axe, then started removing her clothes.

"You wanted to talk to me?" Lena asked with plenty of attitude as she prowled around the clearing, carefully placing her paws only on clean patches of ground and flat rocks.

Axe padded after her, trying to move into her path so she would stop and face him.

"Tell me something. Is it true that after I died, before Baxter fell into a coma, there was some kind of relationship between Baxter and Kaylee?"

My wolf asked the question without thinking it through.

He knew I could hear everything going through his mind, but by then, he was too desperate to care.

Lena stopped pacing and turned toward him, her ears angling back slightly as her tail flicked behind her.

"Why? You were the one who wanted Baxter to believe that, so why are you asking me now?"

Lena was even nastier than Axe, full of attitude and twice as bossy.

"Because I lied to him before. But why did Madeline agree with it? I don't understand," Axe questioned.

Lena gave an irritated huff and turned her muzzle away.

"Because she's completely done with all of you. She doesn't care anymore. But yes, nothing happened between you and Kaylee. There wasn't any love between Baxter and Kaylee, though."
