After forcefully putting Axe to sleep, I walked out and entered my study.

Everybody else had gone to sleep, while Madeline, Ron, and I were still awake.

Ron and Madeline entered the room and sat down, each holding a glass of wine.

I accepted the one from Madeline and took a sip.

"For the curse to be broken, I'll have to visit the werewolf land. Otherwise, how would I give my mother that curse?" I asked, watching Madeline's and Ron's faces.

"I think we should all just move back," Madeline suggested.

Ever since she'd found out that Lady Eugenia, my own mother, was the one who had stolen my son and run away with him, and that they were now living with a crazy lycan like Sawyer, Madeline had been anxious.

I didn't blame her.

"I don't think that would be wise," Ron said. "Look, even if you guys go back, you're not getting any title. People are still mad at you."

Then he turned to Madeline and pointed at her. "And with no title, nothing, how would you even make yourself heard? I mean, how would you fight Sawyer? You'd literally be under his command."

Ron seemed to be making a lot more sense.

Madeline immediately shifted in her seat.

"What if I go there before the end of this week and tell them I'll help the children? Then what?" she asked, looking from me to Ron.

"People are scared, okay? They've heard what the monster has been doing. They want to be able to walk freely outside at night, Madeline. And it's not only the rogue community. People from packs are concerned too. When they're traveling, they're scared. They can't go hiking or anything. They're scared of the monster." Ron sighed.

"So Sawyer is giving them something huge with the promise of not only killing the monster and healing their children, but completely getting rid of the sickness. They're putting all their eggs in his basket now," Ron explained.

My eyes remained on Madeline's face.

She looked so upset that it hurt me.

If I could, I would buy the whole world for her.
