My wolf was starting to wake up, and I was definitely going to let him stay awake for a little while so he could watch some of Daniel and Madeline's interactions.

By the time he was fully conscious, I would probably already be alone in my room.

"Has he woken up yet?" Madeline asked as she entered the kitchen while I was looking for a glass.

"No, not yet," I responded.

"Are you okay?" she asked, reaching around me from behind and hugging me.

It felt so good when her hands rested on my chest and she pressed her face against my back.

"I am," I said, placing my hands over hers and running them gently along her arms to her elbows.

"Why are you here?" she asked, hinting at the fact that I could have simply asked a maid to bring me a glass.

"Well, I could tell you'd follow me," I replied, taking one of her hands from my chest and bringing it to my lips to kiss it.

I remembered the way she had looked at me when I was speaking with her.

It seemed like she had some kind of urge, mine had too.

Then she pulled her hands away as I turned around to face her.

My hands wrapped around her tiny waist while she wrapped her arms around my neck.

"When your mother turns into a monster, you do know she'll eat the first person she sees, right? She'll be really hungry in her monster form," she commented.

The fear in her eyes told me she was scared that my mother would eat me instead of anyone else because of how vindictive she was.

I stared at her face, then glanced toward my bedroom, which was visible straight through the kitchen doorway.

"I have the right person to feed her," I commented, watching Madeline tilt her head.

"Who is it?" she asked.

I pulled her closer until the tips of our noses touched, then smirked.

"The woman who liked feeding me to the monster."

The minute I said that, Madeline's eyes widened.

She snapped her head toward the doorway as well, then nodded.

"Good choice," she said, gently tapping my chest.

As she began to walk away, I felt my wolf starting to stir awake.

So I had to change my thoughts and everything I was doing.

"Are they gone yet?" Axe asked with a yawn, referring to the werewolves.
