As Wendy Clifford's de facto family, Janina, Maggie, and Melody Leigh were helping her prepare her dowry.
The house wasn't a concern. West had already bought a spacious 130-square-meter apartment near Crystal Springs, which had cost a small fortune. For West and his mother being able to afford such a wonderful home was more than they could have hoped for. It was to be their marital home, a testament to West's devotion to Wendy. The deed was in Wendy's name only.
West's restaurant, The Tasting Room, was booming. He had planned to open two new locations this month, but the wedding preparations took priority, so the expansion was postponed. West's vision was to see The Tasting Room not just in Clayborne City but all across the country. Opening three branches in less than two years was already a remarkable achievement.
With West and Wendy's wedding approaching, Janina temporarily pushed aside all the unpleasantness that had been weighing on her mind.
On the third day, Maggie and Melody arrived at Crystal Springs together. With the holidays approaching, everyone was busy, and it was rare for them to all gather during the day. They usually had to wait until after work in the evenings.
Just as they walked in, Kenneth sauntered in behind them, exuding his usual roguish charm.
"Well, well, if it isn't our dear Detective Merrick," Melody teased. "What wind blew you in today?"
"The one that smelled a free dinner, of course," he quipped. "I couldn't resist!"
Janina quickly welcomed him in, knowing his visit meant news.
"Kenneth, did you…"
She was about to ask if he'd found any new leads when she remembered that Land, the housekeeper, was also in the house. Although Land had been diligent and shown no strange behavior over the past few weeks, one could never be too careful. Perhaps it was because Janina had suspected her during the crystal ball incident, but she couldn't shake the feeling of distrust. Even though Land had been cleared, a part of Janina's subconscious remained wary.
Besides, the topic they were about to discuss was private. It was better if Land didn't overhear.
With that thought, Janina called out to the kitchen, "Land!"
