A Woman Worth Billions Dated the Wrong Brother novel Chapter 370

St. Johns

Amber POV

Jason was stressed, but beneath all the confusion, anger, and questions, I could see something else in him that I hadn’t expected.

Relief.

It felt strange to call it that when we’d just discovered that the man Jason had believed was his biological father might not actually be his father, but I understood where the feeling came from. For years, Jason had tried to understand how Mr. White could have given him away so easily. Even after we’d learned that the Vincents had pressured him, even after Mr. White claimed he’d been threatened and hadn’t truly been given a thoice, one fac remained impossible to excuse.

He had accepted money for Jason.

There were softer ways to describe it, but I wasn’t interested in using them. If someone gave you money in exchange for taking away your child and you accepted it, you sold your child. Whatever threats had accompanied the transaction didn’t erase that fact.

“I hope he’s not my father,” Jason admitted quietly.

We were in our bedroom, where I was still trapped on bed rest at six months pregnant. Jason had positioned himself beside me with his laptop, although I suspected his decision to work from the bedroom had more to do with supervising me than anything else.

I reached for his hand. “I understand.”

He looked at me for a moment before glancing back at the DNA results on his screen. “For years, I kept trying to understand how he could do it. I kept thinking there had to be something wrong with me for my own father to accept money and let someone take me.”

“There was something wrong with him, not you.” 1

Jason gave me a tired smile, but his attention quickly returned to the report.

“If White knew I wasn’t his biological son, it would explain some things.”

“Explain, yes. Excuse, no.”

“Definitely not excuse.”

Biological child or not, Mr. White had raised Jason as his son. He had been responsible for protecting him. If he’d known Jason wasn’t biologically his, that didn’t make handing a child over to the Vincents any less monstrous.

Still, I could understand why Jason wanted the answer to be that simple. 1

Perhaps Mr. White had never looked at Jason and seen his son.

Perhaps he’d looked at him and seen someone else’s child. :

It might explain why he’d been able to give him away.

It might even explain why, if our suspicions were correct, he’d later returned Jason to the house in the mountains after someone had already rescued him.

But first, we needed to know who Jason’s biological father actually was.

And when Jason wanted information, Chronos went to work.

activated contacts in every location he controlled and sent the same request through multiple networks. This time, he wasn’t looking for Mr. White or Oscar. He wanted his mother’s history reconstructed as completely as possible, particularly the years before she married Mr. White.

University records, travel history, old photographs, social circles, friends, classmates, employees, security personnel-anything that might tell us who had been close to her.

The first information that came back wasn’t particularly interesting. Jason’s mother had attended university events, participated in charities, traveled with friends, and maintained a relatively normal social life for the daughter of the Sun family.

Then Mr. Sun found something.

He and Mrs. Sun had spent the day going through boxes containing their daughter’s belongings. Since they lived here at the castle with us, Mr. Sun simply came upstairs that evening carrying an old box, with Mrs. Sun following behind him.

“I think we found someone you should look into,” Mr. Sun said.

Jason immediately put his laptop aside. “Who?”

Mr. Sun placed the box on the bed between us and began removing old photographs, notebooks, invitations, and university documents. Finally, he pulled out several pictures and handed one to Jason.

The photograph showed Jason’s mother when she was young, probably in her first years of university. She was smiling at the camera, standing beside a man who appeared a few years older than her.

I leaned closer.

“Who is he?”

“Connor St. Johns,” Mr. Sun answered. “He was a senior at the university when your mother met him.”

Jason looked at his grandfather. “Were they dating?”

“We didn’t think they were,” Mrs. Sun said, although there was enough hesitation in her voice to make me look at her.

“You didn’t think they were?” I repeated.

Mrs. Sun sighed. “Your mother called him her friend. That’s how she always introduced him. But they were extremely close.”

Mr. Sun nodded. “Connor helped her when she first arrived at the university. He showed her around, introduced her to people, helped her with classes. For a while, whenever your mother spoke about university, his name came up.”

That was interesting.

Jason turned the photograph over. A date and location were written on the back, along with their names.

“How much older was he?”

“A few years. He was already a senior,” Mr. Sun said. “Your mother was younger.”

“What happened to him?”

Mr. and Mrs. Sun exchanged a look.

at immediately caught my attention.

“What?” I asked.

Mr. Sun took the photograph back and studied it as if seeing Connor for the first time in decades. “He disappeared.

Jason frowned. “Disappeared from Mom’s life?”

“Not only from her life,” Mrs. Sun answered. “His entire family disappeared.”

That made Jason sit straighter.
