A Woman Worth Billions Dated the Wrong Brother novel Chapter 354

Amber POV

Nobody spoke for what felt like an eternity.

Oliver was still clutching his blanket, looking at Alexander as if he were a complete stranger.

Because, in many ways, he was.

Alexander took a deep breath and sat down on the opposite side of the cave, as far away from the boy as possible.

“Start talking,” I said.

For once, he didn’t make a sarcastic remark.

For once, he looked tired.

Not physically tired.

Broken.

He stared at the floor for several seconds before finally speaking.

“The old man has been blackmailing me for six months.”

That immediately got everyone’s attention.

Jason crossed his arms.

“Blackmailing you with what?”

Alexander laughed bitterly.

“With my family.”

The cave fell silent.

“He asked for money. Ridiculous amounts of money. Every month, the price increased.”

“Why didn’t you go to the authorities?” Franklin asked.

Alexander looked at him as if he had asked the stupidest question imaginable.

“Because every time I refused, another member of my family disappeared.”

The smile vanished from his face.

“I already lost my aunt.”

He swallowed.

“And my younger sister.”

Nobody interrupted him.

“Three weeks ago, he contacted me again.”

Alexander finally looked toward Oliver.

“Only this time, the amount wasn’t ten times higher.”

He laughed humorlessly.

“It was a hundred times higher.”

Jason frowned.

“Why?”

“Because he knew.”

“Knew what?”

Alexander’s expression darkened.

“That I had a son.”

The cave erupted into whispers.

“I didn’t even know myself.”

He rubbed his face with both hands.

“A woman I was involved with requested a DNA test online. The old man intercepted it somehow.”

I looked at Oliver. 1

“He told me that I valued my bloodline too much to let my heir die.”

The words left a bad taste in my mouth.

“He said that if I didn’t pay, he’d kill him.”

Oliver lowered his head, clearly not understanding half of the conversation happening around him.

Alexander continued.

“He knew exactly where to hurt me.”

Franklin snorted.

“So you came here to save your son?”

Alexander turned toward him.

“I came here because I had no choice.”

I crossed my arms.

“Let’s not pretend you’re some innocent victim.”

Alexander didn’t even argue.

“I’m not.”

The honesty of his answer surprised me.

I knew exactly who he was.

Everyone in that cave did.

Alexander Vincent wasn’t a good man.

He wasn’t rescuing Oliver because of some sudden moral awakening.

He wasn’t risking his life out of kindness.

He was doing it because Oliver carried his blood.

Because the Vincent family legacy mattered to him more than anything else.

And somehow, that made the situation even sadder.

Jason finally broke the silence.

“So what now?”

Nobody answered immediately.

Then Noah spoke.

“Now we stop trying to kill each other and focus on surviving.”

One by one, people nodded.

Cloud Country.

Snake Nest.

Sum.

Lake View.

River City.

Even Starlight.

For the first time since arriving on the island, nobody cared about borders, money, companies, or old grudges.

There was only one objective.

Get off the island alive.

“Fine,” Jasmine said, standing up. “Then let’s start by finding another way out of this death trap.”

Emory immediately volunteered.

“I’ll go.”

A tall man from Snake Nest stood beside him.

“Héctor. Offense specialist.”

Jasmine smiled.

“Perfect. Let’s climb a mountain.”

Daniel looked horrified.

“Why do you say dangerous things with so much enthusiasm?” 1

Because life is short.”

“Incredibly reassuring.”

Within minutes, Jasmine, Emory, and Héctor disappeared into the darkness outside the cave, determined to see whether there was another exit farther up the mountain.

As soon as they were gone, Jason sat beside me.

He waited until nobody was paying attention before lowering his voice.

“I don’t like this.”

“You’ll have to be more specific.”

He glanced toward Alexander, who was sitting several meters away from Oliver.

“I’m not comfortable having him here.”

I sighed.

“Neither am I.”

“Especially not near a child who doesn’t even know him.”

I followed his gaze.

Oliver was asleep against Emory’s backpack, completely unaware that the man watching him claimed to be his father.

“I know.”

Jason turned toward me.

“Amber, he’s dangerous.”

I looked at him.

“I know exactly what Alexander is.”

Monster.

Kidnapper.

Trafficker.

Manipulator.

There were dozens of words I could have used.

“We’re going to do everything we can to free the people he took.”

Jason’s expression hardened.

“If we ever get off this island.”

“Exactly.”

I lowered my voice even further.

But right now, we don’t have evidence.”

Jason frowned.

“We know he did it.”

“We suspect it.”

“Amber-”

“Listen to me.”

I leaned closer.

“Alexander still doesn’t know that Sum and River City suspect he’s behind the trafficking operation.”

Jason’s eyes widened slightly.

“He thinks we’re angry because he tried to take power away from us.”

“Exactly.”

“He thinks we’re angry because of the companies.”

“Yes.”

“And because of the children.”

I nodded.

“But he has no idea that the governments already suspect he’s the one running everything.”

Jason looked back toward Alexander.

“So what do we do?”

I forced myself to smile.

“We act.”

Jason blinked.

“Act?”

“We act like spoiled billionaires who hate him for ruining our companies, stealing influence, and causing chaos.”

“And pretend we don’t know anything else?”

“Exactly.”

Jason groaned.

“You realize I’m a terrible actor.”

I raised an eyebrow.

“You hid an international military competition from your pregnant wife for weeks.”

He opened his mouth.

Closed it.

Then sighed.

“Fair point.”

I patted his shoulder.

“So you’d better start practicing.”

Jason looked at Alexander and muttered under his breath.

“I preferred it when the biggest problem in my life was quarterly reports.”

For the first time in hours, I laughed.

Then, from somewhere high above the mountain, a scream echoed through the night.

And every single person in the cave stood up at once.

Amber POV

The scream echoed through the mountain a second time.

Every conversation Inside the cave died instantly.

One of the guards was already halfway to the entrance when Jason grabbed his arm and pulled him back.

“Don’t.”

The man frowned. “Someone could be hurt.”

Jason shook his head, lowering his voice.

“That’s the oldest hunting trick in the book.”

The guard blinked.

“What?”

Jason pointed toward the darkness outside.

“If you’re hunting prey, you don’t go looking for it. You make the prey come to you.”

The cave fell silent.

I crossed my arms and nodded.

“He’s right.”

Everyone looked at me.

“It’s a classic kidnapping tactic. Serial killers have used it for decades.”

Franklin looked horrified. “You know way too much about serial killers.”

I ignored him.

“They pretend to need help. A broken car. An injury. Someone crying in the woods. People naturally want to help.”

Daniel slowly nodded.

“And when the victim approaches…”

“They’ve already lost.”

The guard stepped away from the entrance.

“That’s disturbing.”

“Human beings are disturbing,” Jasmine had once told me.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t there to say it now.

Nobody moved.

Nobody left the cave.

Instead, I grabbed Daniel’s tablet and opened the live feed from one of the body cameras he had hidden outside the mountain hours earlier.

The image appeared on the improvised screen.

Three soldiers,

Military uniforms.

Weapons.

Walking at the base of the mountain. 1

The camera’s microphone crackled to life.

One of the men was clutching his leg and limping dramatically.

“Help!” he shouted weakly.

A second later, he burst out laughing.

“Told you that one still works.”

The man beside him snorted.

“It worked perfectly on the Rou Country team.”

The entire cave froze.

The third soldier laughed.

“Two countries down. Straight out of the game.”

Noah immediately sat beside me.

“They think nobody’s here.”

I increased the volume.

The man pretending to be injured straightened his back.

“We should check the mountain base.”

The second man shrugged.

“Fine.”

The third laughed.

1

“Maybe River City did what the other idiots did and abandoned one of their command centers.”

My blood ran cold.

Of course they knew the locations, the islands owner gave us the map, with out command centers.

The three soldiers disappeared from the camera’s view for a few seconds.

Then, to everyone’s surprise, they walked into a building.

A building at the base of the mountain.

Noah’s eyes widened.

Jason stood up.

“That’s not our command center.”

I opened the map.

It only took me a few seconds to realize the truth.

“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me.”

Franklin walked over.

“What?”

I pointed at the screen.

“That’s the real command center, the map was not accurate and I found this cave with the satellite, so it turns out this cave was never part of the game.”

The realization hit River City’s teams at exactly the same time.

We had climbed the wrong mountain.

The silence lasted for almost five seconds.

Then Jasmine’s voice echoed from the cave entrance.

“You’re telling me we climbed the wrong mountain?”

Everyone turned.

Jasmine, Emory, and Héctor had finally returned.

Covered in dirt.

Exhausted.

And apparently arriving at the perfect moment.

Noah nodded.

“Completely wrong mountain.”

Héctor blinked.

“So… we’re safe?”

I couldn’t stop myself from smiling.

“Apparently.”

On the screen, the three men walked back out of the abandoned command center.

The one who had pretended to be injured laughed.

“Told you. Deserted.”

The second man shrugged.

Maybe River City used only one command center like the other teams.”

The third stretched his arms.

“Works for me. Less walking.”

The three disappeared back into the forest.

Jasmine immediately dropped her backpack.

“We’re going after them.”

Jason looked at her as if she had lost her mind.

“Absolutely not.”

Héctor stepped forward.

“They know too much.”

Emory nodded.

“And they just admitted to killing people.”

Noah crossed his arms.

“If they find this place, we’re done.”

Jason stared at the map for several seconds before finally sighing.

“Fine.”

Jasmine grinned triumphantly.

“But-“Jason continued, pointing at her. “You take them as far away from this mountain as possible before engaging.”

Héctor nodded.

“Understood.”

“You don’t fight near the cave.”

“Understood.”

“You don’t play heroes.”

Jasmine immediately opened her mouth.

“No promises.”

“Jasmine.”

“Fine. Understood.”

Just as they began gathering supplies again, my phone vibrated.

Mr. Stait.

4/6

I answered immediately.

Please tell me the helicopters are close.”

The old man’s expression was grim.

“Amber…”

That single word was enough.

“What happened?”

“The weather changed.”

I frowned.

“What do you mean?”

“There is now a hurricane alert covering the entire area.”

The entire cave went silent.

Franklin stood up.

“A hurricane?”

Mr. Stait nodded.

“It formed less than an hour ago.”

Daniel stared at the screen.

“That’s impossible.”

“Apparently not.”

I swallowed.

“What about the helicopters?”

The old man looked away for a second.

“They’re grounded.”

Nobody moved.

“They can’t leave the mainland.”

Jasmine slowly sat back down.

“So we’re stuck.”

Mr. Stait didn’t answer.

Because he didn’t need to.

We all understood.

The rescue boats were still hours away.

The helicopters couldn’t fly.

e storm was coming.

And we were trapped on an island full of murderers.

For several seconds, the cave remained silent.

Then Héctor loaded his rifle.

Jasmine smiled.

And Noah stood beside them. 1

I looked at the three disappearing dots on Daniel’s camera feed.

The hunters believed they controlled the island.

They believed we were trapped.

They believed we were prey.

I slowly stood up.

“Then it’s time they learn something.”

Jason looked at me.

“What?”

I stared at the approaching storm on the satellite feed.

“The prey outnumbers them.”

Lightning illuminated the clouds in the distance.

At that moment we stopped thinking about escaping and started to think about staying alive by whatever means necessary. 1

Because now, it was time for the hunters to be hunted.
