The reporters stared.
Cameras clicked furiously.
Mrs. Soly looked horrified.
Tears immediately filled her eyes.
“Look at this.”
She turned dramatically toward the cameras.
“These children have no manners.”
“They’re completely out of control.”
She pointed toward us.
“Mr. and Mrs. Sun…”
“Control your children.”
Jason calmly stepped forward.
His voice never rose.
“My children know one very important rule.”
The room became silent.
“They decide who is allowed to touch them.”
He placed one hand gently on Alex’s shoulder.
“Their consent matters.”
He looked directly at Mrs. Soly.
“If Alice says no…’
“That means no.”
“If Alex doesn’t want someone touching him….”
“That decision will be respected.”
He paused.
“And that is not changing.”
Several reporters exchanged surprised glances.
One journalist quietly lowered her camera and began applauding.
Another quickly joined her.
Within seconds, more reporters followed.
Not loudly.

Just enough to show they understood.
Mrs. Soly’s face Teddened.
For the first time that day…
Public opinion wasn’t on her side.
The court officer stepped toward the front of the room carrying three sealed envelopes.
Each bore the logo of a different laboratory.
He placed them carefully on the table.
“I have received the certified reports.”
Every conversation stopped.
Every camera focused on the envelopes.
The officer looked around the room before breaking the first seal.
My heart pounded so hard I could hear it.
Three laboratories.
Three answers.
One truth.
And in a matter of seconds…
We were all going to hear

Our worst-case scenario
Amber POV
The courtroom was so silent that I could hear my own heartbeat.
The court officer opened the first envelope.
He carefully reviewed the report before speaking.
“Laboratory One.”
He looked toward the Soly family.
“The probability that Mr. and Mrs. Soly are the biological grandparents of Alice and Alex…”
He paused.
“…is excluded.”
A collective gasp swept through the room.
Mrs. Soly’s face went pale.
The officer continued.
“There is no genetic evidence supporting a grandparent-grandchild relationship.”
He opened the second envelope.
“Laboratory Two.”
The conclusion was identical.
Again…
The Solys were excluded.
The third envelope produced exactly the same result.
Three laboratories.
Three identical conclusions.
The Solys were not Alice and Alex’s biological grandparents.
Jason quietly exhaled beside me.
I hadn’t even realized he had been holding his breath.
The court officer reached for another folder.
“There is one additional report.”
Several reporters looked confused.
The officer continued.
“At the request of Mr. Jason Sun, an additional comparison was conducted.”

He unfolded the page.
The probability that Mr. Jason Sun is the biological uncle of Alice and Alex…”
He looked up.
“…is approximately ninety-seven percent.”
The room erupted.
Questions flew from every direction.
Reporters began shouting.
“So they really are members of the Sun family?”
“Does this confirm the mother’s identity?”
“What does this mean for custody?”
The judge repeatedly struck the gavel until silence returned.
I felt Jason’s hand tighten around mine.
At least one part of the truth had been confirmed.
Then… 1
The officer frowned.
“There is one unexpected finding.”
Every head turned.
“Although Mr. Soly cannot be the children’s biological grandfather…”
“…the analysis indicates that Mr. Soly shares distant genetic markers with the children.”
He adjusted his glasses.
“The relationship is consistent with that of distant relatives.”
“It is not sufficient to establish legal grandparentage.”
“Nor is it sufficient to create any legal claim.”
He paused.
“However…”
“The result suggests that the anonymous sperm donor may have belonged to the same extended ancestral family.”
The room exploded.
Microphones shot into the air.
“So the donor was related to the Solys?”
“Was the donor another member of the family?”

“Did Nicolas secretly arrange the donation?”
Who is the biological father?”
I felt every muscle in my body tense.
Speculation.
That was exactly what we had wanted to avoid.
Mrs. Soly suddenly stood.
“No!”
Her voice echoed through the courtroom.
“I don’t believe any of this!”
She pointed toward us.
“They altered the results!”
“They bribed the laboratories!”
“My grandchildren belong with us!”
She turned toward the judge.
“I demand another DNA test!”
“I demand new laboratories!”
“I demand an investigation!”
