Nicolas Soly
Amber POV
I refused to accept assumptions as facts.
Everyone believed Alice and Alex’s biological father had been Nicolas Soly.
Including us.
But something about the investigation kept bothering me.
So I started from the beginning.
I pulled every public record I could find on the Soly family.
Birth certificates.
Corporate filings.
Old newspaper articles.
Family photographs.
Everything.
The deeper I searched, the stranger it became.
The photographs of Nicolas Soly didn’t match the man in Jason’s cousins old wedding pictures.
I enlarged the image from his cousin’s wedding until it began to lose resolution.
The man smiling beside Alice and Alex’s mother…
Wasn’t Nicolas Soly.
Not even close.
The jawline was different.
The nose.
The ears.
Even the way he stood was different.
I frowned.
“Jason.”
He looked up from his laptop.
“What is it?”
I turned my screen toward him.
“Look.”
He studied both photographs in silence.

His expression slowly changed.
That’s not him.”
I nodded.
“The man everyone identified as Nicolas Soly…”
“…isn’t the man who married your cousin.”
Jason walked closer.
For several minutes, neither of us spoke.
Finally, I whispered the only conclusion that made sense.
“He was using the Soly identity.”
Jason rubbed his forehead.
“It never even crossed my mind.”
“Mine neither.”
“If he wasn’t Nicolas…”
“…then who was he?”
Jason immediately moved to his own computer.
Unlike me, he had access to databases that weren’t publicly available.
Corporate records.
Government archives.
Facial recognition software.
International immigration systems. 1
He uploaded the wedding photograph.
“Cross-reference every available database.”
The computer began searching.
Minutes passed.
Neither of us spoke.
The loading bar slowly reached one hundred percent.
A single result appeared.
One.
Only one.
Jason’s face lost all color.

“No…” 1
tepped beside him.
The screen displayed an old family photograph.
The resemblance was unmistakable.
Below it was a name.
Nikolay Vincent.
Status:
Missing.
Date of disappearance:
Ten years ago.
I felt the room spin.
“The youngest Vincent…”
Jason finished my sentence.
“…Alexander Vincent’s younger brother.”
Silence.
The pieces finally fit together.
Nikolay Vincent hadn’t disappeared.
He had disappeared as Nikolay Vincent.
Somehow…
He had become Nicolas Soly.
Married Jason’s cousin.
Had Alice and Alex.
Then vanished again.
The children had never belonged to the Soly family.
They had always belonged…
To the Vincent bloodline.
Alexander Vincent wasn’t simply interested in them.
He was their uncle. 1
I slowly sat down.
“Do you think Alexander knows?”

Jason answered immediately.
I looked at him.
“You’re sure?” 1
He nodded.
“If he knew…”
“…he wouldn’t be manipulating things from the shadows.”
“He would already be in court.”
“He’d be demanding custody.”
“He’d claim they belong with their biological family.”
I closed my eyes.
He was right.
Alexander Vincent fought directly when he believed he had legal standing.
The fact that he hadn’t….
Meant he didn’t know.
Yet.
I opened my eyes.
“Then we make sure he never finds out.”
Jason didn’t hesitate.
Within minutes we began locking down every record connected to the children.
Medical files were moved to secure offline storage.
Every hospital that had treated Alice or Alex received updated privacy restrictions.
Digital access required multiple authorizations.
