The last me
The first wave
Amber POV.
Alive video feed immediately appeared.
The tiny camera hidden inside Jason’s jacket was transmitting perfectly.
The image was clear.
The sound even better.
Jason slowly positioned his wheelchair at the head of the table.
Six directors sat waiting.
Four of them…
Already belonged to the Vincents.
They just didn’t know we knew.
One of the directors smiled unpleasantly.
“Mr. Sun.”
“We were beginning to think you wouldn’t come.”
Jason smiled weakly.
“The accident delayed me.”
The man nodded sympathetically before leaning forward.
“Have you thought about the divorce papers?”
My fingers tightened around the phone.
“There really isn’t much left to discuss.”
“You already know those babies aren’t yours.”
Jason lowered his eyes for a moment.
When he finally answered…
His voice sounded tired.
“Even if…”
“…they weren’t my children…”
“I still love Amber.”
“I won’t leave her.”
The room became quiet.
Another director spoke.

she’s already moving on.”
Jason slowly looked toward him.
“What do you mean?”
The director smirked.
“Mrs. Sun has been meeting with Mr. Alexander Vincent.”
“You’ll only embarrass yourself by staying married.”
I almost laughed.
If only they knew…
Jason sighed softly.
“I don’t believe that.”
One of the directors slammed a folder onto the table.
“Enough.”
“We have another matter.”
He pushed several documents toward Jason.
“We believe it’s time you stepped down as Chief Executive Officer.”
Jason glanced at the papers.
“No.”
The director blinked.
“…Excuse me?”
“I said no.”
His tone remained calm.
Another folder appeared.
“Then sign these.”
Jason didn’t even touch them.
“No.”
The atmosphere changed immediately.
Several directors exchanged nervous looks.
One of them leaned closer.
“You really should cooperate.”

Jason slowly looked around the room.
don’t think…”
“I’m the one who should be cooperating.”
Silence.
Then…
Jason casually reached beneath the armrest of his wheelchair.
Click.
A tiny hidden button.
Nothing happened.
For exactly three seconds.
Then the boardroom doors burst open.
“River City Financial Crimes Division!”
“No one move!”
Uniformed officers flooded into the room.
Behind them came investigators from the Financial Police.
The expressions around the table changed from confidence…
To absolute panic.
One director attempted to stand.
He was immediately restrained.
Another reached for his phone.
An officer seized it before he could unlock the screen.
The lead investigator unfolded several arrest warrants.
“Directors Oscar Hale…”
“Lucas Thinly…”
“Simon Veil…”
“And Malcolm Parry…”
“You are under arrest.”1
The room exploded with shouting.
“This is ridiculous!”
“You can’t do this!”

“You have no proof!”
The investigator ignored them.
“You are charged with corporate espionage…”
“Bribery…”
“Money laundering…”
“And conspiracy related to the attempted kidnapping of Alexander Sun.”
My breath caught.
They had finally linked someone.
Not the Vincents.
But one of their men.
The officers escorted the four directors toward the door.
The remaining two sat frozen in their chairs.
The lead investigator turned toward Jason.
“Mr. Sun.”
“Your testimony and the financial records were sufficient to proceed.”
Jason nodded politely.
“Thank you.”
The investigator hesitated before adding quietly,
“We searched thoroughly.”
“We found no direct evidence against the Vincent family.”
Of course they hadn’t.
The Vincents never touched the crimes themselves.
They simply convinced others to do their work.
Once again…
The evidence stopped one step short of Alexander Vincent.
But this time…
Four of his closest collaborators were no longer free
The arrests were only the first wave.
Watching four members of Jason’s board being led away in handcuffs had shaken the entire company.
The two remaining directors sat frozen in the boardroom, their faces drained of color.

From the camera feed, it was obvious they hadn’t expected any of it.
Whether they were innocent or simply better at hiding their involvement remained to be seen, but one thing was certain.
They were terrified.
I left Jason’s office as soon as the officers finished escorting everyone out and walked toward the conference room.
Jason was still there, speaking with the head of River City’s Financial Crimes Department.
The moment he saw me, he reached for my hand.
“You should hear this.”
The investigator sighed before opening another file.
“Mr. and Mrs. Sun… we need to clarify something.”
He looked genuinely frustrated.
“We didn’t discover the evidence connecting Simon Veil to Alex’s kidnapping until about thirty minutes before we arrived.”
Jason frowned.
