And Iris.
Alex…
They were simply his sisters.
I squeezed his hand.
“There’s something else you should know.”
He looked at me.
“Do you remember showing Emily your emergency signal?”
Alex nodded.
“She found it.”
His eyes widened.
“Really?”
I smiled.
“She recognized it immediately.”
“Without her…”
“It would have taken us much longer.”
A tiny smile finally appeared on his face.
Jason frowned thoughtfully.
“One thing still puzzles me.”
“The watch was gone.”
“So how did you activate the signal?”
Alex reached into his hair.
Hidden beneath a small lock was what looked like an ordinary black hair clip.
He carefully removed it and placed it in Jason’s hand.
“It isn’t a hair clip.”
“It’s a prototype.’
“My robotics teacher has been helping me make it.”
Jason turned it over several times.
It was unbelievably small.
Almost impossible to notice.
I couldn’t help smiling proudly.

“My little engineer.”
Alex leaned into me again.
After a few quiet moments, I cleared my throat.
“Alex…”
He looked up.
“I think…”
“It might help if you talked to someone.”
His forehead wrinkled.
“Who?”
“A psychologist.”
He blinked.
“What’s that?”
Jason smiled softly.
“It’s a doctor for feelings.”
Alex looked confused.
“They don’t give you medicine if you’re sad.
“They help you understand scary things.”
I nodded.
“Sometimes something frightening happens.”
“And even when you’re safe again…”
“Your heart still feels scared.”
“A psychologist teaches your heart that it’s okay to feel that way.”
Alex was quiet for a long time.
Finally he asked,
“So…”
“They’re like a teacher…”
“…but for emotions?”
Jason smiled.
“Exactly.”
Alex nodded slowly.

d like to meet one.”
I kissed the top of his head.
“So would I.”
And for the first time since we found him…
I truly believed…
That we were finally bringing our little boy home.

corruption
Amber POV
By the time we drove pass the castle gates, none of us spoke anymore.
Alex sat quietly between Jason and me, holding both our hands.
He wasn’t crying.
He wasn’t trembling.
He simply held on tightly, as if making sure neither of us would disappear.
Marcus parked the car in front of the castles door.
Before the engine had even stopped, the great front doors flew open.
Pamela had barely stepped inside when several little voices echoed through the entrance hall.
“They’re back!”
Alice burst through the doorway first.
Rose was right behind her.
Iris followed, trying to stop the younger girls from running too fast, but giving up almost immediately.
I smiled as I opened the rear door.
Alex climbed out of the car on his own.
The second his feet touched the ground…
Three little girls crashed into him.
“Alex!”
Alice wrapped herself around his waist.
Rose hugged him from behind.
Iris knelt in front of him, wrapping her arms around all three of them.
For several seconds Alex completely disappeared beneath the pile of sisters.
When they finally let him breathe again…
He was smiling.
It was small.
It was tired.
But it was real.
Jason walked around the car until he stood beside me.
We watched the children quietly.

After a long moment he spoke.
think…”
He paused.
“The whole family needs therapy.”
I looked at him and nodded.
Not just because of Alex.
Not just because of today.
There had been too much.
The warehouse.
The attacks.
Jason being drugged.
The kidnapping attempt at the mall.
Now Alex’s kidnapping.
We had survived everything.
But surviving wasn’t the same as healing.
I slipped my hand into Jason’s.
“I agree.”
“As a family.”
Eventually the girls released Alex.
He stayed close to us, still holding Alice’s hand.
“Dad?”
Jason crouched until they were at eye level.
“Yes?”
“I want to learn how to fight.’
Jason didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he asked gently,
“Would learning make you feel safer?”
Alex nodded without hesitation.
“Yes.”
“I don’t want to be helpless again.”

My chest tightened.
nelt beside them.
“We’ll find the right teachers.”
“But they’ll teach you something important.”
Alex looked at me.
“What?”
“Learning to fight isn’t about hurting people.”
“It’s about protecting yourself and the people you love.”
He thought about that.
Then nodded.
“I still want to learn.”
Jason smiled softly.
“I think that’s a good reason.”
“So do I,” I said.
Together we walked into the castle.
Waiting in the entrance hall were Emory and Mr. Stait.
Neither of them looked pleased.
Emory folded his arms.
“You rescued a kidnapped child…”
“…without telling either of us.”
Mr. Stait sighed.
“You could have been killed.”
Jason met their eyes calmly.
“We know.”
Emory frowned.
“Then why?”
I answered.
“Because there’s a mole.”
The room became silent.
“We don’t know how many people have been compromised.”

“We couldn’t risk Alex being moved before we reached him.”
Stait slowly nodded.
“I don’t like your decision.”
“But…”
“I understand it.”
Emory smiled gently at Alex.
“Can I ask you a few questions?”
Alex looked at Jason first.
Jason nodded.
“It’s okay.”
Emory crouched so they were eye level.
“Did you hear anyone talking while you were on the island?”
Alex frowned as he tried to remember.
“I heard one name.”
“What name?”
“Vincent.”
Everyone became still.
“No first name?”
Alex shook his head.
“No.”
“They only said ‘the Vincents.””
Emory glanced toward us.
“Anything else?”
Alex nodded again.
“They said there were Vincents on the island.”
“They used it to hide in Sum.”
The room fell silent.
Mr. Stait immediately called the President of Sum.
After hearing Alex’s testimony, the President acted without hesitation.
“I’ll dispatch the military immediately.”

We waited.
Nearly twenty minutes later, another call came in.
The military commander sounded frustrated.
“We’ve reached the island.”
“And?” the President asked.
“It’s empty.
My heart sank.
“We saw several helicopters leaving the area shortly before our troops arrived.”
The President immediately issued another order.
“Contact the Air Force.”
“I want every helicopter identified before they leave Sum.”
Another pause followed.
Then the Air Force commander answered.
There was hesitation in his voice.
“Sir…”
“We’ve identified the helicopters.”
“Who do they belong to?”
Silence.
Then came the answer.
“The helicopters…”
“…belong to the Sum Police Force.”
The entire room froze.
If the kidnappers had escaped aboard police helicopters…
Then the corruption reached much higher than any of us had imagined.

They don’t control the women
Amber POV
The command room had fallen completely silent.
No one wanted to believe what we had just heard.
The President of Sum slowly looked at the commander of the Special Operations Unit.
“You are absolutely certain?”
The commander nodded once.
“Yes, Mr. President.”
He enlarged several satellite images on the large screen.
“The helicopters that departed the island…”
He highlighted their identification numbers.
“…are the exact same aircraft that were detected in Sum the day Mr. Asher was poisoned.”
Grandfather looked up from his chair.
His expression hardened.
“I remember.”
The room remained silent as the commander continued.
“At the time, we believed they belonged to a routine police operation.”
“We were wrong.”
The President slowly leaned back.
“So…”
“They never left.”
I felt a chill run down my spine.
The old man’s words echoed in my memory.
The final warning left for my grandfather after the poisoning.
“We never left.”
At the time, we had assumed it was a threat.
Now…
It sounded like a confession.
The Vincents had never abandoned Sum.
They had simply disappeared beneath the surface.

Jason pulled another map onto the screen.

“…they’ve had decades to spread.”
Marcus opened several financial reports while Pamela connected to international databases.
Within hours, we had begun tracing Vincent influence across the world.
Country after country appeared on the screen.
Corporate ownership.
Military contracts.
Political donations.
Infrastructure.
Banks.
Shipping companies.
Mining operations.
Jason stopped counting after the eighteenth country.
“They control almost everything.”
Pamela slowly shook her head.
“In several countries…”
“…they effectively control two-thirds of the economy.”
Marcus added another report.
“They’re deeply embedded in politics.”
“The military.”
“The banking system.”
“The media.”
I stared at the growing list.
“This isn’t a family anymore.”
“It’s an empire.”
Jason quietly nodded.
“An empire hiding in plain sight.”
Then something caught my attention.

I enlarged the regional map.
There.”
Everyone looked.
Only two countries remained largely untouched.
Sum.
And River.
Jason crossed his arms.
“The only two countries on the continent they haven’t fully taken.”
“They’ve infiltrated them.”
“But they don’t control them.”
“Not yet.”
No one said what we were all thinking.
Those two countries…
Were the last obstacle standing between the Vincents and complete regional control.
A knock interrupted the meeting.
One of the castle guards stepped inside.
“Mr. and Mrs. Sun.”
