Three.
Then followed him.
The forest muffled every sound.
Only the distant waves reached us through the trees.
The indicator light inside my sleeve remained green.
The cloaking device was still active.
Jason crouched behind a fallen tree and waited for me.
Together we looked through the branches.
A white cabin stood in the middle of a clearing.
Small.
Plain.
Ordinary.
Except for the men carrying assault rifles walking around it.
Far too many guards for an abandoned island.
I quietly pulled my tablet from my backpack.
Within seconds I found the security network.
The cameras appeared one after another.
Front entrance.
Rear entrance.
Perimeter.
Storage shed.
Then another screen appeared.
Motion detection.
I frowned.
“They’re using smart cameras.”

Jason looked at the display.
The cloaking suits?”
“They’ll hide us from the cameras.”
I swallowed.
“But not from the guards.”
He nodded.
“So we stay invisible to both.”
I cycled through the cameras again until one image caught my attention.
A small side window.
No guards nearby.
No direct camera coverage.
“There.”
Jason studied it for a moment before nodding.
“That’s our entrance.”
Keeping low, we circled through the trees until we reached the rear wall of the cabin. 1
The window was unlocked.
Jason carefully slid it open.
Without making a sound, he climbed inside.
I waited three seconds.
Then followed him.
The cabin smelled old.
Dusty.
Unused.
At least…
The front rooms did.
Then voices echoed from somewhere below us.
A man’s voice.
Angry.
Impatient.
“Louder!”

said cry!”
Another crash.
“You’re supposed to be scared!”
Jason and I froze.
Our eyes met.
Neither of us needed to say it.
That man…
Was talking to Alex.

Amber POV
Every scream echoed through the cabin like a knife twisting in my chest.
Jason moved first, his footsteps completely silent despite the old wooden floor beneath him. I stayed several seconds behind, exactly as we had planned, letting him take the lead while 1 watched our backs.
The voices grew louder.
Alex.
It was definitely Alex.
I heard him crying.
My hands clenched into fists.
Jason reached the doorway first.
1
I slipped behind the open door of a storage closet only a few meters away, just enough to remain hidden while still hearing everything.
A man’s laughter filled the room.
“Well, there you are.”
“We were beginning to think you weren’t coming.”
I heard Jason’s cold voice.
“Let my son go.”
The kidnapper laughed again.
“We expected you much sooner.”
“You took far too long to follow orders.”
Then…
“Dad!”
Alex.
My little boy.
His voice cracked with fear.
I had to bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from running into the room.
Not yet.
Not until I knew where everyone was.
I carefully opened my tablet.
The security cameras immediately appeared.

Five guards.
inside with Jason and Alex.
Four outside.
And…
One walking the hallway.
Too close.
He stopped only a few steps from the closet where I was hiding.
His back was toward me.
Perfect.
I slipped silently from the closet.
One step.
Two.
Three.
My hand struck the side of his neck with just enough force.
His eyes rolled back before he could even make a sound.
I caught him before his body hit the floor.
11
Slowly lowering him, I pulled zip ties from my pocket, secured his wrists and ankles, stuffed a cloth into his mouth, and dragged him inside the closet.
The door closed without a sound.
Five left.
The cameras became my eyes.
The first guard outside never saw me coming.
He collapsed before he could lift his rifle.
The second turned at the last second.
Too late.
A precise strike to the temple sent him unconscious into the bushes.
The third lasted barely three seconds.
The fourth reached for his radio.
I intercepted his arm, twisted it behind his back, and struck the base of his skull.
Silence returned.
Only one remained.

The one inside.
hecked the cameras one last time.
No reinforcements.
No patrols.
Just Jason.
Alex.
And the man holding them at gunpoint.
I circled the cabin until I reached the rear window.
Keeping low, I crawled beneath it.
The moonlight reflected faintly against the glass.
If I stood…
He might see me.
So I stayed almost flat against the floor, moving inch by inch until I reached the doorway behind him.
The kidnapper never looked back.
His entire attention remained fixed on Jason.
The gun pressed against Alex’s head.
A stack of papers rested on the table.
“Sign them.”
Jason didn’t move.
“I said sign!”
Jason calmly looked at him.
“No.”
The man’s face twisted with rage.
“If you don’t sign, the boy dies.”
Jason’s expression never changed.
“Then you’ll have to kill me first.”
That was all the distraction I needed.
I exploded forward.
My shoulder drove into the man’s lower back.
He hit the floor hard, the pistol flying from his hand.
