The first thing I did was look at Alex.

“Can you check the security cameras?”

He didn’t even answer.

“I found them.”

Mrs. Sun and I hurried to his side.

The footage showed Alice and Rose happily skipping down one of the hallways.

“They’re heading toward the kitchen,” Alex murmured.

The next camera picked them up entering the enormous castle kitchen.

Nothing.

Alex frowned.

“That’s impossible.”

“What?”

“They never came out.”

He replayed the footage.

Again.

And again.

The girls clearly entered the kitchen.

Not a single camera showed them leaving.

Mrs. Sun’s smile disappeared.

“Let’s go.”

The three of us hurried toward the kitchen.

It was empty.

Completely empty.

I searched behind the pantry doors while Alex checked every window.

Mrs. Sun blinked.

“There was a secret passage in my kitchen?”

Alice tugged harder.

“Come on!”

“You have to see it!”

Without waiting for permission, the two girls disappeared back into the hidden passage.
