Every head turned toward Francis once again.
expect you for dinner tonight.”
A’pause.
“Don’t be late.”
Francis froze.
His eyes widened in complete disbelief.
“Y-yes, sir!”
The reporters burst into laughter.
Even the photographers couldn’t hide their smiles as camera shutters clicked nonstop.
Someone from the press section called out with a grin,
“I guess that’s one way to survive meeting your future grandfather!”
The laughter grew even louder.
Iris covered her bright red face with both hands, looking as though she wanted the ground to swallow her whole.
Francis looked equally embarrassed, scratching the back of his neck while trying-and failing-not to smile.
I couldn’t help laughing myself.
Leave it to Mr. Stanley.
With a single sentence, he had managed to calm the reporters, reassure Iris, test Francis’s character, and embarrass two teenagers at the exact same time.
As the conference came to an end, I found myself looking at Francis with entirely new eyes.
Maybe…
Just maybe…
Helping the Owens family break free from the Vincents wouldn’t just save another family.
It might also give two teenagers the chance to decide their own future.

Amber POV
Mr. Stanley had truly frightened the poor boy.
The moment the press conference ended, Francis looked like he was reconsidering every decision he had ever
made.
I almost felt sorry for him.
Almost.
Mrs. Sun certainly didn’t.
“Oh, this will never do,” she declared the moment we returned to the castle.
She immediately took Mr. Stanley by the arm.
“If you’re inviting the Owens family to dinner, we’re doing if properly.”
Mr. Stanley nodded with complete seriousness.
“I agree.”
Mrs. Sun smiled.
“I’ll have the invitations prepared.”
“And the menu.”
“And the seating arrangements.”
“And…”
She paused thoughtfully. 1
‘…we should probably warn the poor parents before their son arrives believing he’s about to be interrogated.”
For the first time all day, Mr. Stanley laughed.
“I suppose that would be the polite thing to do.”
The two of them disappeared toward the dining hall, already discussing guest lists, formal invitations, and whether seventeen-year-olds should be served wine.
I smiled.
“They’re going to terrify the entire Owens family.”
Jason chuckled.
“They probably already have.”
As entertaining as the situation was…
We had more important matters to deal with.
Without saying another word, Jason and I headed toward his office.

The moment the heavy wooden door closed behind us, our smiles disappeared.
Jason activated the encrypted network.
Several monitors lit up at once.
“So.”
He sat down.
“Let’s figure out who leaked Iris.”
I nodded.
The timing bothered me.
Alexander Vincent hadn’t simply learned Iris was alive.
He had learned she was the Stanley heir.
Those were two very different pieces of information.
I began reviewing every digital record connected to the Stanley family.
Jason searched communication logs.
Government databases.
School records.
Hospital files.
Property registrations.
Nothing.
Everything surrounding Iris had remained sealed.
Almost suspiciously so.
“I don’t like this.” 1
Jason glanced toward me.
“Neither do I.” 1
He enlarged another screen.
“If someone obtained that information…”
“…they either hacked extremely secure records…”
“…or someone told them.”
Neither option was comforting.
Hours passed.
We traced access logs.
