Starla waved a hand, silently ordering the room to clear.
The medical team packed their supplies and filed out.
Leaving just the two of them alone, Starla walked over and sat by his side.
She picked up the iodine the doctor left behind, took a large cotton swab, and methodically began cleaning his wounds.
"Hiss..."
Yardley flinched violently as the stinging iodine hit his raw skin.
Instead of easing up, Starla pressed down harder!
"Do you have a vendetta against me?"
"Yes."
Yardley sucked in a breath.
He didn't want to speak anymore. The pain was too intense.
The wounds on his back were excruciatingly deep!
"You should go to the hospital," Starla noted.
"I'm fine here!"
It was a minor inconvenience to him. They were used to treating gunshot wounds at home before.
A whipping hardly warranted a hospital visit.
Starla let it go.
"Remember our deal. Garret is already pushing the paperwork through."
He was talking about the mines.
Seeing him act so remarkably generous brought a cynical smile to her lips.
"You really don't seem like the type to throw away an empire for a woman. Spit it out, what's your actual play here?"
Starla asked bluntly!
It wasn't just her; no one with half a brain bought this lovestruck act.
Usually, he kept their father in the loop regarding his schemes.
