Had Joseph really disappeared? Cora missed him, but no matter how many messages she sent, he never replied. His phone was unreachable, and he wasn’t returning to his place. It was as if he had vanished without a trace.

Still, he had told her before that she could go to Jenna or the Zahn family to find him. However, doing so would expose his whereabouts and put both him and Jenna in danger.

It was Joseph’s test for Cora. She hoped he would eventually uncover her children’s biological father. Once he did, the misunderstanding between them would finally be cleared up, and he would return to the life he used to have

She firmly believed her children were his. As for the affairs she had carried on behind his back, he would never find any videos or evidence. Someone of her status would never leave behind anything that could be used against her.

If necessary, she would deny every accusation. Then, she would appeal to the feelings they once had. As long as he still loved her, she believed she would win. If there was no love left, what was there left to fight for?

That evening, Jenna returned home. When she didn’t see Joseph, she felt a bit disappointed. She couldn’t help worrying that he had left without saying goodbye. If he truly left Jenton and became a monk, they might never see each other again.

The thought alone made her chest tighten with frustration. Still, she convinced herself he couldn’t possibly leave because he hadn’t known who Natalie’s biological father was.

Jenna waited until 11:00 pm, but Joseph still hadn’t returned. Now, she was genuinely worried. Just then, she heard the front door unlock. She hurried out of her bedroom and saw him stepping inside. She felt relieved.

Nonetheless, she acted displeased as she demanded, “Where have you been? It’s late. Why didn’t you just stay out for the night?”

“Take a guess,” said Joseph. He headed straight to the bathroom to use the toilet before showering.

After that, he walked out and asked, “Did Yara go for the examination? Is it really ALS?”

Jenna replied, “It’s confidential. I can’t tell you.”

Edmund’s condition wasn’t caused solely by what Kenneth and the others had done. There was another force involved as well. That force specialized in poisons. They seemed to be deliberately targeting the Zahn medical sect.

Jenna chuckled. “You truly do have principles, don’t you? You’re staying at my place, eating my food, asking me for favors, and now, you’re acting all high and mighty. You’re amazing.”

Joseph mocked, “What about you? You’re still young. Why are you acting like some resentful housewife?”

He paid no attention to her complaints, dismissing them as little more than harmless grumbling. He might not be a saint, but he wasn’t going to take advantage of her feelings for him. He couldn’t give her the future she wanted, so he shouldn’t encourage her.

Joseph didn’t take the step forward. He continued, “Jenna, don’t forget. You still owe me. You challenged me in medicine and poison, but you lost. So, everything I’m asking of you now is just for you to honor that agreement.

“Besides, I’m not trying to make things difficult for you. I only want the truth about my daughter’s biological father. That’s all. Maybe all it would take is a single sentence from you.”
