Chapter 444
“Was the last time we made love really the last? Joseph, you’re so cruel,” muttered Cora.
Cora saw that she still had an appointment with Shirley. She knew that if she refused to meet Shirley, the latter would only keep coming back.
The moment Shirley entered, she questioned, “Cora, where did you hide Joseph? Hand him over right now, or I’m not letting this go!”
Shirley hadn’t been able to reach Joseph for days. He was neither at the laboratory nor the clinic. Katie had told Shirley that he had gone out of the city to treat patients, but Shirley didn’t believe a word of it. Shirley was convinced that Cora had hidden him away.
Cora snorted. “Jonas’ ashes aren’t even cold yet, and you’re already this desperate for a man? You’re disgusting. If you’re that lonely, find other men. Stay away from mine. I hope this is the last time you ever say such a thing to me. Otherwise, I’ll have you thrown out of Jenton.”
Shirley refused to back down. “I’ll come here every day and say it. Go ahead and try to touch me. You’re barely keeping yourself afloat, and you still think you can interfere between Joseph and me? Just wait until we figure out who your children’s biological father is. We’ll see who’s laughing by then.”
Cora snapped, “You’re completely delusional!”
Cora immediately gave Belinda a call and asked, “Belinda, aren’t you going to do something about Shirley?”
Belinda answered, “Did Shirley go to see you again? Honestly, there’s no need to make such a fuss. Just send her back.”
Córa questioned, “Do you think she’ll listen to me? Are you just refusing to deal with her? Jonas has just passed away, and she’s already standing in front of me trying to steal my husband. If your family won’t discipline her, I will.”
Belinda responded, “Actually, Shirley just wants money. Give her Jonas’ money, and she’ll get what she wants. She won’t make trouble anymore. In fact, she’ll even thank you.”
It was then that Cora realized something. “So, you’re all working together.”
Cora ended the call. Then, she had security escort Shirley out. If Shirley refused to cooperate, Cora could call the police.
After getting rid of Shirley, Cora felt frustrated. Jonas’ funeral arrangements had somehow turned into another troublesome mess.
“So, Belinda won’t help me, and neither will you?” Cora asked.
Peyton responded, “You’re asking outsiders to solve problems between husband and wife?”
She changed the topic and said, “Let’s talk about your biotech project instead. You should sell it as soon as possible. Otherwise, you’ll suffer huge losses.”
As she said that, she made a gesture to imitate an explosion.
Cora asked, “Why?”
Peyton answered, “That project has the Zahn family’s fingerprints all over it. The Croma faction has already tried negotiating with them, but they refused to budge. When the Croma faction can’t get something, they’ll destroy it. It’s an old tactic.”
Cora cursed, “Damn it. It’s the Zahn family again. They’re involved in everything.”
