Joseph was remarkably calm. No one had come looking for him even when it was time for him to get out of work. So, he became even more convinced that the person who had set the fire was keeping their word.

These days, love was the least reliable thing in the world. Only interests and benefits lasted forever.

Joseph sighed. Then, he left the hospital and went to Kingsley Estate, where he shared the place with Rosalie.

“Dad, look. I got a perfect score,” said Brooke, holding up a test paper. She wanted a reward.

“That’s amazing. Let’s see where all this sudden genius came from,” replied Joseph, surprised.

After taking a look at the test paper, he noticed something suspicious. The answers were clearly copied from an answer sheet and then graded afterward.

Joseph pulled out a hundred-dollar bill but didn’t hand it over immediately. Instead, he looked directly into Brooke’s eyes. To his surprise, she didn’t look nervous at all.

At such a young age, she already had incredible composure. When she grew up, she would either become someone influential or a leader of a gang of troublemakers.

“If you can get the same score on your final exam, I’ll give you ten times this amount,” said Joseph.

“That might be difficult, but I’ll try my best,” responded Brooke. This time, she felt diffident. Once she took the money, she hid it before running off to the study to work on her homework.

Rosalie brought over a plate of fruit and said, “You’re spoiling her too much, I’m worried that she’ll become too dependent on you. If you didn’t come over one day, I wouldn’t know how to calm her down.”

“Do you wish for me to come every day?” Joseph asked.

“I could give myself to you anytime. But would you really want me?” Rosalie asked, looking at Joseph. Something changed in her gaze. She was actually willing to sleep with him.

“Don’t ask childish questions,” replied Joseph, pretending not to notice her gaze. He made sure she kept the deed. Then, he took a shower and went to bed.

At around 5:00 am, Joseph woke up and left the house. After the morning meeting, he returned to his office and found Jennifer there.

Jennifer immediately said, “Dr. Hart, Warren died last night from a sudden heart attack. I suspect he was murdered. I want you to come with me and examine his body.”

“That’s an unreasonable request. I can’t agree to it,” responded Joseph. He knew Warren would die, but he didn’t expect it at this time.

He wondered if Warren’s death was connected to the fire at New World Group. Had that fire enraged the people behind that company?
