“Oh, do whatever you like. You can call me ‘Dad’ if you want.” Joseph was slightly taken aback, though he still agreed.

None of Cora’s daughters was his, but they had been calling him “Dad” for years. It didn’t matter if he had another child who wasn’t even his. Perhaps a makeshift family wasn’t such a bad idea after all.

“Dad! Dad! Dad! Thank you so much!” Brooke called out enthusiastically. She then poured him some tea and handed him the cup.

“Have some tea.”

After taking a sip of his tea, Joseph pulled out a wad of cash from his bag. “You’ve been waiting for this, haven’t you?

“Well, I have some advice for you. When times are hard, money matters most. I come second, okay?”

“Dad, you’re the most important man in my entire life! Of course, money is important, but without you, money wouldn’t mean anything to me!

“I won’t let anyone bully you-over my dead body! I’ll always be your daughter, no matter what!”

“That’s enough. Don’t get all carried away. It’s time you did your homework.” Joseph got up, but Brooke pushed him back down again.

Brooke said, “Dad, since I’m your daughter, I should take your last name, right?”

“If it’s not too much trouble, you can always change your last name.”

Joseph rose to his feet and went back to his room. He suddenly noticed Rosalie lying on his bed. He went over to wake her up, and he realized she was naked and was in a very deep slumber./

Displeased, he called out her name several times before realizing something was off-Rosalie was out cold.

Joseph thought of Brooke and went to question her. From there, he found out that Brooke had ordered a sedative drug online and tricked Rosalie into drinking it. She had done all that so Joseph would sleep with her mother.

The next day, after her treatment was complete, Mavis dismissed everyone and spoke to Joseph alone.

“Grace told me you’ve been disappearing every night for the past few days. Where have you been?”

“I’ve been going to hotels that don’t require ID registration so I can have a good rest. I don’t want the others to find me. You know what I’ve been going through, so don’t worry about it,” Joseph answered.

“You don’t have to hide yourself every night. Just speak to Grace, and she’ll handle the arrangements.”

“Are you trying to play matchmaker for us? I’m still not divorced from Cora, so it wouldn’t be right for me to be involved with another woman.

“I should be spending more time on meaningful things. As for Grace and I, let’s see how things develop in the future.”

Joseph had politely refused Mavis. As long as he and Cora were still married, he would never be truly free.
