A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 178

Chapter 178

The wind by the Blackveil River was chilly. Joseph didn’t want to catch a cold there either. Once he had regained his composure, he put away his fishing gear and returned to the city, where he checked into a hotel for the night.

The next day, Joseph walked into the lobby and spotted Ella. Clearly, she was there to keep an eye on him. Still, he ignored her and returned to the hospital.

At the hospital, Yvette continued to assign her own people, gaining control over the finance and human resources departments.

Marvin could no longer put off his transfer to the Jenton General Hospital. If the worst came to worst, he would claim to be ill and take a day off to rest at home.

Instead of returning home, Joseph stayed in the hospital dorm or at the laboratory in the Crest District.

Many days passed.

Joseph walked out of the emergency room and headed to his office to get a glass of water. Just then, Fiona knocked on the door and entered the room.

“If you’re here about Cora, just save your breath. Get lost!” Joseph spoke first.

“That’s not it. Joseph, I’m here because I need you to save someone,” Fiona explained.

“Who? Is your friend at the hospital?”

“It’s Ella. She’s at your house now. She suddenly became very weak and couldn’t get out of bed.”

“My housekeeper? She works for Cora. If it’s really necessary, I’ll arrange for an ambulance to bring her to the hospital for a checkup.” Joseph looked at Fiona before calling the emergency response team and had them send someone to bring Ella to the hospital.

“Joseph, can’t you go home and check on her?”

“You treat me like I’m beneath you. Or perhaps you think too highly of yourselves, huh?” Joseph asked coldly. He pulled out a medical record and went through it before returning to the ICU, ignoring Fiona the entire time.

“I’ve never cheated on you, so stop overthinking things. Also, our children need you…”

“Children? Whose children? They’re the children you had with your lover.” Joseph ended the call. When Cora tried. to call him again, he blocked her number immediately.

A moment later, Yvette entered the room, shut the door, and made things very clear. “Dr. Hart, what on earth are/ you doing? I asked you to treat Ella, but her condition keeps getting worse. This is beneath your medical skill and reputation.”

“Dr. Quinn, do you even know anything about muscle weakness?” Joseph asked calmly. Even though he was rather displeased with Yvette, he didn’t lose his temper. After all, he knew anger wouldn’t solve the problem.

“My medical skills are nothing compared to yours, but you can do things that I can’t. You were able to separate conjoined twins in surgery. That was a pretty tricky operation, so I’m sure you can cure Ella.”

“Dr. Quinn, I see traces of you in Dr. Loughlin. Oh, forget it. There’s no point in discussing things. I’m going to check on Ella.” Joseph didn’t argue any longer and walked out of his office. He then gathered his team to discuss Ella’s condition.

The team had worked hard, but there was no result. Ella’s condition continued to get worse.
