Julian's expression shifted slightly. "Did he divorce Kaia and is just in a bad mood?"
"I don't know! That's why I'm asking you," Noelle said, looking distressed.
Just then, the server brought out their food. Julian, looking at Noelle's furrowed brow, came up with an idea. "How about I call Quentin and Chad to come eat with us? They should know what Finnian's been up to."
Noelle's face lit up, and she nodded. "Okay! Call them."
Julian stepped out of the restaurant and stood by the railing to make the calls.
However, he never expected their answers to leave him completely baffled.
After hanging up, he stared at his phone in disbelief. When he told them he was having dinner with Noelle and asked them to join, Quentin said he was mopping the floor for his ex-wife, and Chad claimed it was about to rain and he had to rush home to take the laundry in.
Julian thought they had both lost their minds. Their excuses were completely ridiculous.
When Julian returned to the table, Noelle looked up with big, watery eyes. "Well? Are they coming?"
Julian obviously couldn't repeat their ridiculous excuses. Any idiot would know they were just blowing him off.
"They're busy with something. They can't make it."
Noelle paused, staring down at the table. Then, she asked miserably, "Julian, are they avoiding me?"
