Chapter 14
After work the next day, I pushed open the door as usual and called out,
“Wesley, I’m home!”
But the room was pitch black, and a sharp pain pierced my heart.
was only then I realized he had already left.
When I turned on the light, I was surprised to see three dishes and a soup set out on the dining table!
Next to it was a note:
“Heat it up and eat. Take care of yourself when I’m not here.
– Wesley”
Tears streamed down my face. It felt like I was living the same life I once did when I missed Vincent, only…
I didn’t want to repeat the same mistakes.
I composed myself and decided not to think about him anymore.
But he seemed to be clinging to me.
【What are you doing?]
【It’s so cold, is it cold over there too? I had the driver send you a scarf. I had someone
specially design it for you.]
[Are you eating well? Is the food Aunt made to your liking?]
He had hired a nanny to make sure I ate properly.
At work, everything was going smoothly with the backing of his family.
But I couldn’t afford to slack off. I knew this was a gift from heaven, and I had to make an effort so that when these gifts faded, I would still have the confidence to live wonderfully.
On my birthday, I bought a small cake and went to McDonald’s alone.
The server kindly brought me a cute plush toy.
“Thank you,” I smiled and said.
my surprise, the server asked,
“Shall I take a picture for you?”
“Ah?” I hesitated, but still handed over my phone.
In front of me, the cake had a candle on it, its gentle flame flickering.
But who could I confide this loneliness to in my heart?
I made a wish:
I hope I’ll never be lonely again. If I had to choose someone to be with me, it would be
Wesley.
I opened my eyes and blew out the candle.
At the same time, the server handed my phone back to me.
I looked at the screen and saw Wesley holding a bouquet of icy blue roses, gazing at me
with deep affection.
My heart raced at that moment. I turned my head, tears filling my eyes.
Choking up, I said,
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming? The cake is too small…”
Wesley chuckled softly.
Then he reached out to
pe away my tears.
“Foolish woman, that wouldn’t be a surprise then. How could you cry on such a wonderful
day?”
I felt even more wronged. “Can you stop calling me a foolish woman? There are so many
people here, it’s so embarrassing!”
“Alright, alright, smart woman,”
He handed me the roses and gently said,
“Happy birthday, Margot…”
