He stood under the water for a long time before finally shutting off the valve. Toweling off, he pulled on his clean clothes and stepped out of the bathroom.
His hair was still dripping, the wet strands plastered against his forehead, making him look even more hollowed out.
Danielle was sitting on the edge of the bed holding a hairdryer. The moment she saw him, she patted the spot in front of her. "Come here. Let me dry your hair."
Alex paused, then instinctively walked over and sat in the chair she had pulled up.
Danielle plugged in the dryer and flipped it on, a wave of soothing heat hitting the back of his neck.
She combed her fingers through his damp hair, her touch incredibly light, treating him like he was made of spun glass.
With the warm air brushing over his scalp and the comforting pressure of her fingers, Alex leaned back in the chair and closed his eyes. The suffocating anxiety slowly began to bleed out of him, replaced by a rare, absolute tranquility.
It had been so long since they had shared a moment like this. No boardroom bloodbaths, no endless paranoia—just Danielle's quiet presence and simple, domestic peace.
It brought back memories of when they first started dating. Every time he showered, she would insist on drying his hair, her fingers massaging his scalp as they chatted about nothing in particular. Life had been beautifully uncomplicated.
Then came the misunderstandings, the bitter fights, and the years of agonizing distance. Those small, perfect moments had been collateral damage.
Having that warmth back now felt like a punch to the gut. It was a bittersweet cocktail of regret for the years they had wasted, and overwhelming relief that they had finally found their way back to each other.
Danielle's fingertips brushed over the fading scratches on his neck, her touch barely a whisper. "Does this still hurt?"
"Not anymore," Alex replied, his eyes still closed, his voice thick with a lazy, comfortable exhaustion.
"I don't ever want you taking a risk like that again."

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
