Danielle looked at him, knowing that fighting him on this was a lost cause.
She swallowed hard and nodded. "Okay. I'll wait for you."
"But you have to take care of yourself. You check in with me and Niki every day. If you run into trouble, you don't face it alone—you tell me. Promise me."
"I promise." Alexander lowered his head and pulled her into a bone-crushing hug, wishing he could just fold her into his soul. "Wait for me. When I get back, we are never spending another day apart."

Over the next two days, Alexander moved at lightning speed to lock down his overseas operations.
He reached out to his international contacts, securing safe houses and logistical support.
He handpicked a roster of elite security contractors and armed them with cutting-edge tactical gear.
He liaised with the Captain and Interpol to compile every scrap of intel and overseas leads on Harold.
He also delegated the daily operations of The Davidson Group to his most trusted executives, before pulling Gian and Kirsten aside to ask for a massive favor: keep an absolute lock on Danielle and Niki while he was gone.
When Gian and Kirsten heard about his plan to hunt Harold overseas, they were sick with worry, but they knew there was no talking him out of it.
They swore up and down that they would guard Danielle and Niki with their lives and keep Ashford secure, giving him the peace of mind he needed to operate in enemy territory.
On his last night before deployment, Alexander came home early to have a quiet family dinner.
Danielle shook her head, continuing to fold a shirt, her voice thick with emotion. "I want to do it. That way, when you open it over there, you'll think of home. You'll think of me and Niki."
Alexander held her tighter, burying his face in her hair in heavy silence.
The bedroom was dead quiet, save for the soft sound of their breathing. The air was thick with a bittersweet reluctance to let go.
Alexander took it. It was a silver pendant strung on a sturdy cord, warm from her touch.
He gripped it tightly, then slipped it over his head, letting it rest against his chest. "I won't take it off until I'm standing right back here."

Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
