The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 8

"There are some things I can't explain right now," Juno said smoothly. "If your not avoiding Rhiannon at the club today was just because of the Corrington family behind her..."

She paused, her eyes locking onto his. "Give me two months. I will own this family."

Beneath Chuck's cold exterior, an undetectable wave of tenderness softened his gaze. "Yeah. I believe you."

She had always been a woman of her word. She had the ruthlessness to scheme and the sheer power to execute it.

His elegant fingers slid a sleek, metallic black card across the table. "Since things are already complicated, there's no rush to head back. Taking some time to rest in Kingsland isn't a bad idea."

After that, he stood up to leave.

Juno immediately stood up with him. "I'll handle this as fast as I can. I won't let those bastards in Blackwood stay comfortable for long."

Just thinking about what the Yates family had done made her want to rip their throats out.

Chuck stopped in his tracks. He turned around, closed the distance in three long strides, and pulled her into a fierce, crushing embrace. "Take your time."

He gently stroked the top of her head. Then, without another word, he walked away.

Miles scrambled to keep up, his mind completely blown by the bizarre interaction.

A few steps out the door, Chuck's voice turned ice-cold. "Did you look into what I asked?"

Miles snapped to attention. "Yes, sir. They brought Ms. Mercer back to serve as a sacrificial bride for a disabled man. The Corringtons were originally going to just adopt a random proxy, but they stumbled upon her by sheer coincidence."

Chuck's expression was utterly devoid of emotion. "A disabled man?"

Miles nodded. "Yes. The Corringtons are desperate to curry favor with the Jennings family."

Chuck's tone was dangerously casual. "You have one hour. Annihilate them."

Miles bowed his head. "Understood."
