Juno raised a hand, caught Claire, and steadied her.
Startled and a little breathless, Claire turned around. She quickly lowered her head in embarrassment and whispered, "Thank you."
"Sure."
Juno brushed past her and walked further into the room.
Gerda emerged to exchange pleasantries with the guests. "Thank you all for making the trip out here tonight."
Edna Whitman's well-maintained face stretched into a sycophantic grin, her smile practically reaching her ears. "Oh, it's no trouble at all! It's a rare privilege to get an invitation from you, Mrs. Corrington."
Gerda simply smiled without saying a word.
Edna's eyes landed on Juno. "This must be Rhiannon! I've heard so much about how deeply you cherish her."
Gerda's smile vanished.
Juno, on the other hand, let out a dry laugh. "Is that right?"
"Oh, absolutely! Just look at her, she's absolutely stunning."
Edna was gearing up for another round of flattery when Juno cut her off. "I'm Juno."
Standing at the back, Claire cringed internally and pinched the bridge of her nose.
Edna's smile froze, and she began to stammer. "O-Oh, is that so...?"
Gideon immediately stepped in, physically nudging his wife aside. "She misspoke, please forgive her."
Gerda didn't even want to look at them anymore.
Harrison Corrington was also present tonight.
Harrison's business empire spanned the restaurant and hospitality industries—the exact sectors the Ashworths were desperate to partner with.
They needed to get on Harrison's good side.
Gideon shot a pointed look at Faye. Faye understood instantly.
Everyone moved to the massive dining table. Juno sat right next to Gerda.
Juno looked entirely disinterested in the food until a platter of perfectly cooked shrimp was brought out.
Her eyes lit up.
Before the platter could even reach Juno, Edna selfishly spun the lazy Susan, stopping it right in front of Faye. She piled shrimp onto her daughter's plate. "Eat up, sweetheart. It's good for you."
Claire hesitantly reached for her fork to grab a piece.
