The Transactional Marriage That Imploded novel Chapter 9

Cillian went on, "Thank god Bianca didn't give up on herself or her career. She kept studying the whole time she was taking care of that invalid. She's incredibly resilient, and I have the utmost respect for her."

A faint twitch briefly disturbed Mathis's brow before his face settled back into a mask of cold indifference.

Cynthia chimed in indignantly, "Mr. Calder, are you playing favorites here? She's been out of the workforce for three years since graduation. You're making her Technical Director? What could she possibly know?"

Bianca found this highly amusing. Wasn't Cynthia the biggest nepotism hire in the room?

Mathis had clearly brought her here today to shove her into Stellaride's tech department, gilding her resume so she’d have more leverage when fighting for power back at her own family's company.

Cynthia clearly hadn't expected Bianca to beat her to the punch, and she absolutely refused to work under her. Why was this woman always trying to steal everything that belonged to her?

Cillian shot her an irritated glance and asked, "And you are Mr. Jagger's girlfriend?"

Cynthia proudly puffed out her chest. "Yes, I am!"

Bianca shot a look at Mathis. He didn't deny the title at all and even locked eyes with Bianca for a split second before they both looked away.

Confused, Cillian remarked, "If that's the case, shouldn't you just stay home and enjoy the lavish life of a billionaire's wife? Why come slum it at our company? Being a programmer is grueling work."

He thought to himself that she would just be dead weight, completely unable to handle the grind, but swallowed those exact words out of respect for his lead investor.

Cynthia’s face flushed with embarrassment, ready to fire back.

With a perfectly blank expression, Bianca interjected, "Mr. Jagger, you really should hurry up and marry your girlfriend. How could you bear to let your true love suffer through such hard labor?"

She had no idea what was going on in his twisted head—dragging out their divorce while parading his mistress around town. No one deserved to be bullied like this!

Mathis’s voice sliced through the tension like a knife. "We've wasted enough time chatting. Let's start the meeting. Cynthia is here on my authority, and I approve of her presence."
