Ravenna lowered hereyes, her hard instinctively resting over the gentle curve of her stomach.
“Thorne carries the memories of the curse,” she said softly. “Every vessel before him inherited Gideon’s hatred, his pain, his obsession, and his desire for revenge. Along with those memories came one undeniable truth–the curse always rests when the Silver Wolf gives birth to the next generation.”
She looked up at Diana.
“The moment the Silver Wolf safely delivers her pups, Gideon’s curse disappears from its current vessel. The darkness falls silent. It does not die, but it sleeps.”
Diana frowned thoughtfully.
“So that’s why some White Witches chose to hide the Silver Wolf?”
Ravenna nodded.
“Yes.”
“For thousands of years, that became one of the only strategies that ever worked.”
She sighed deeply.
“Not because they believed the Silver Wolf was weak. Not because they wanted her to abandon her people. But because every White Witch eventually came to the same heartbreaking conclusion.”
She looked toward the window.
“If the Silver Wolf dies before giving birth… the curse never rests. The vessel remains consumed. The war continues. The deaths continue. And eventually… everyone loses.”
Silence settled between them. Ravenna continued.
“Every generation tried something different. Some Silver Wolves chose to stand and fight until the very end. They died. The curse continued. Until the new Silver Wolf emerges from other branches of the Silver Wolf bloodline. But it took a longer time to happen. Some White Witches secretly took the Silver Wolf away before the final battle. They were called cowards. They were called traitors. But… The curse rested. The next generation survived.”
She smiled sadly.
“History judged them harshly. But history also continued because of their sacrifice.”
Diana lowered her eyes. The weight of those words settled heavily in her heart. Ravenna leaned back in her chair.
“Thorne is not just another vessel. He is an exceptionally powerful Black Witch. And…”
She hesitated.
“He is incredibly intelligent.”

“I’ve noticed.”
“He doesn’t waste his strength. He never attacks without purpose.”
Ravenna’s voice became thoughtful.

“He won’t stop with attacking Black Howler. He’ll already be planning his next move. And the move after that. And another after that. He’ll think several steps ahead. He’s always been like that.”
Diana sighed.
“He already has.”
Ravenna looked at her.
“Our allied packs are under attack. The feral wolves are attacking every territory connected to Black Howler. They’re attacking the Rogue Kingdom too.”
Ravenna’s eyes widened slightly.
“So… The Rogue King accepted the alliance.”
Diana smiled.
“He did.”
“I told him long ago that the Silver Wolf would unite all wolves.”
Ravenna smiled faintly.
“It seems I was right.”
Diana couldn’t help laughing.
“Well… You were right. But Damon misunderstood one very important part.”
Ravenna blinked.
“What happened?”
Diana rubbed her forehead.
“He believed your prophecy meant he had to become my mate.”
Ravenna stared at her.
“…What?”
Diana laughed louder this time.
“He came to Black Howler determined to claim me. He even argued that the Silver Wolf could choose her own mate until she was fully marked.”
Ravenna looked utterly horrified.

never told him that. I only told him that the Silver Wolf mate will stand beside her when she unite all wolves. I never once said…”
She pointed foward Diana.
“…that it had to be him.”
Diana smiled.
“I know. But Damon has a habit of acting first and thinking later.”
Ravenna couldn’t stop herself from laughing.
“So that’s why your Alpha King looked ready to kill someone when I first met him.”
“Oh, Talon absolutely was. He and Damon nearly started a war before they became allies.”
Ravenna covered her mouth as she laughed.
“Oh, Goddess…”
“What happened after that?”
“Fortunately… Damon finally realized that his true mate wasn’t me.”
Ravenna relaxed.
“Thank goodness.”
“He almost lost her because of his stupidity.”
“Who is his mate?”
Diana nodded.
“Talon’s younger sister. Willow.”
Ravenna smiled warmly.
“So they truly found each other.”
“They did.”
“And now they’re preparing for their marking and mating ceremony.”
“I’m genuinely happy for them.”
“So am I.”
Ravenna’s smile lingered for a moment.
“The Royal Pack and the Rogue Kingdom are now connected by more than politics. They’re family. And family is always stronger than alliances.”
Diana nodded.

only wish…”
She sighed.
“…that Thorne’s attacks would stop long enough for them to enjoy their happiness.”
Ravenna’s expression immediately became serious again.
“They won’t.”
Diana looked at her.
“He won’t stop. Not until he believes he’s won.”
Silence followed. Ravenna slowly continued.
“And that is another reason… why you must prepare yourself.”.
Diana already knew where the conversation was going. She didn’t want to hear it.
“But if the day comes… when Black Howler begins to lose… you must leave.”
Diana immediately shook her head.
“No.”
“You have to.”
“I won’t.”
Ravenna leaned forward.

“Diana. Listen to me. If Thorne breaks through the defenses… If Talon can no longer protect you… If Black Howler begins to fall… you cannot stay.”
Diana’s chest tightened.
“You must escape. You must protect your pups.”
Her voice grew softer.
“Think carefully. What happens if Thorne succeeds? What happens if he kills you… and your unborn children?”
Diana closed her eyes. Ravenna answered her own question.
“The curse never rests. The darkness continues. Gideon’s hatred lives on. The next vessel inherits
everything. There will be no pause. No chance for the next generation. No time to prepare.”
She looked directly into Diana’s eyes.
“But… If you survive… If your pups are born… the curse sleeps. It gives everyone another chance. It gives your children time to grow. It gives the wolves time to prepare. It gives the White Witch of the next generation time to train. It gives hope.”
Diana looked away. The words made sense. Every one of them. That was what hurt the most.

“How ”
She whispered.
“…how can I do that?”
Ravenna remained silent.
“How can I leave?”
Diana’s voice trembled.
