Jade doesn't give them a chance to reply, mostly because she knows she will lose the argument. She is just one woman against two ruthless men, and she has no leverage left. She practically flees the scene.
"So, Nikolai, are you going to her little grand recognition banquet?" Alec asks, watching her retreat with a smirk.
"Someone like her doesn't deserve a banquet." Nikolai frowns in absolute disgust. "But if she actually manages to host one... of course I'll go."
If he doesn't show up, how is he supposed to expose Jade and Jovani for the treacherous criminals they are? That woman nearly killed him. Nikolai hasn't forgotten that deep-seated grudge for a second. It isn't a matter of if he will get his revenge, but when.
Alec raises an eyebrow, a playful smirk tugging at his lips. "Oh? So you plan on making a personal appearance to 'support' her?" He pauses, his gaze darkening with calculated amusement. "I am genuinely curious to see which powerful family she thinks she can leech onto. If she's bold enough to make threats like that, she must have some sort of backup."
Nikolai sneers, his eyes cold as ice. "Whatever backup she thinks she has, she's nothing more than a dancing clown to me."
Just thinking about Jovani and Jade makes his blood boil.
Meanwhile, Jade storms down the corridor, her chest tight with frustration. She still hasn't been officially welcomed into the Sinclair family, and her mother remains an unacknowledged mistress hanging by a thread. Every connection, every powerful ally she used to rely on has abandoned her for Tara.
"Tara, Tara! It's always about Tara! What is so damn special about that bitch? Why is everyone obsessed with her?" Jade mutters through gritted teeth, feeling completely suffocated by the injustice of it all.
Jade considers turning around and leaving. Confronting Tara right now won't win her any points. But suddenly, a twisted idea sparks in her mind.
She creeps forward quietly, tailing Tara until she sees her slip into one of the exclusive private bathrooms.
"What a pampered princess. Needs a private bathroom just to take a shower? Always has to act like she's so far above the rest of us," Jade mutters, her face twisting with bitter jealousy.
A sickeningly vicious plan takes hold. She sneaks over to the private changing stall attached to the bathroom. Pulling a thin hairpin from her pocket, she makes quick work of the flimsy lock. For someone as desperate and underhanded as Jade, picking a cheap lock is second nature.
