The floral scent had somewhat scrambled his thoughts.
"Mr. Zucker?" Over the earpiece, having not received a response from the man for a long time, the reporting executive called out to him cautiously again.
In front of him, Celia didn't get an immediate response either. She blinked. "Uncle Alistair?"
He saw her trusting eyes. Her long hair cascaded over her loose T-shirt, disappearing into places hidden by the fabric.
She was a little too close.
Alistair thought to himself.
Over the earpiece, the executive had grown terrified after a long stretch of silence.
Mr. Miller's report had just gone wrong, and Mr. Zucker had stayed completely silent just like this.
The reporting executive seemed to think he had said something wrong too. He opened his mouth, speaking carefully, "Mr. Zucker? Are you listening?"
"Mr. Zucker, did I present something incorrectly? Please correct me."
"Mr. Zucker, regarding this data, actually—"
"Shut up."
Finally, Alistair's mic turned on.
But he merely uttered those two brief words before turning it off again.
Alistair leaned back slightly, resting his back against the chair, putting some distance between himself and the young woman leaning toward him.
Hearing the man speak like that, Celia's eyes widened slightly, thinking she had asked too many questions. She quickly shrank back. "I'm sorry, did I talk too much..."
The lily of the valley scent instantly vanished.
Alistair took a deep breath, forcing his voice to sound a bit gentler. "I wasn't talking about you."
Pursing his lips slightly, the man looked at her again and said slowly, "If you're really nervous, just stare at one spot. It can help distract you."
Alistair had no personal experience with nervousness.
Since reaching adulthood, he gave speeches so frequently every year that he never felt nervous.
So the advice he could give her was mostly what he had heard from others.
