The Platonic Trap novel Chapter 88

"Norma, why are you saying these things to me?"

The smugness in Norma's eyes intensified, her expression turning openly hostile. "It means you need to know your place. You don't know how to do anything. If you don't start behaving, Talbot is going to dump you!"

"You have no idea how popular Evelyn is at the company. Everyone loves her. She's nothing like you. Aside from your trust fund, you can't compete with her on any level!"

Celia's eyes grew damp, and she bit her cherry-red lips softly. "So... you think Evelyn is a better fit for Talbot?"

Norma let out a cruel laugh. "Obviously. Anyone with eyes can see it. Talbot is just too nice, and he didn't want to upset your grandfather. That's the only reason he's stayed with you this long. Know your place, Celia."

Celia looked down at the floor.

Her grip tightened on her champagne flute. She bit her lip, her voice trembling and soft. "But... Talbot promised me he only loved me."

"And you actually believed that?" Norma mocked. "No wonder Talbot can't stand you. Are you really that stupid?"

"If Mr. Stafford hadn't gotten violently ill out of nowhere, do you really think Talbot would still be dragging this out? He just didn't want the bad PR of dumping you while the old man was half-dead!"

"But don't worry, the second your grandfather kicks the buck—"

*Splash!*

Celia threw her half-full glass of champagne directly into Norma's face.

Hearing Norma's ear-piercing scream, only one thought crossed Celia's mind—

It felt incredibly satisfying.

The commotion drew the attention of numerous guests, all turning to see what had happened.

From across the room, Celia could acutely feel a sharp gaze cut through the crowd, locking onto her with unwavering intensity.

Taking a deep breath, Celia let the tears spill over, looking utterly humiliated. Ignoring the whispers and stares of the surrounding elites, she lowered her head.

Refusing to meet anyone's eyes, she gathered the hem of her gown and turned on her heel.

Leaving the grand, elegant music behind her, the girl wiped her eyes and hurried out of the banquet hall.

...

Elysian Club, VIP Private Suite.

Celia returned to the private room she had booked upstairs.

Her gown was heavy and cumbersome. She sat alone on the sofa, the massive skirts pooling around her.
