He turned and strode toward the door. Celia followed closely behind him, leaving a completely stunned Norma rooted to the spot.
Outside the front doors, the biting wind whipped through the air. Celia's thin, pure white dress fluttered delicately, making her look like a trembling butterfly.
Ken held the car door open as Alistair slipped his leather gloves back on.
"You don't need to see me off."
Seeing that he was about to get in, Celia spoke softly. "Uncle Alistair..."
He rested a hand on the car's frame. The black leather gloves didn't conceal the elegant length of his fingers; instead, they amplified his dangerously untouchable aura.
"I want to ask you a favor," Celia murmured, her voice so soft and low it sounded like she was terrified of rejection.
Standing nearby, Ken didn't say a word, but his mind was already jumping to conclusions. Based on the conversation he'd overheard between her and Norma, this girl was obviously trying to leverage his boss's power to investigate her cheating fiancé.
With that thought in mind, Ken looked at her with a hint of disdain. There were way too many people who tried to use their loose connections to squeeze favors out of his boss. Clearly, this heiress was no different.
Alistair turned slightly to face her. "What is it?"
Celia hesitated for a moment before speaking softly. "The hospital said Grandpa's memory loss is tied to my dad's passing. The shock was too much, so his mind is subconsciously trying to escape reality by forgetting."
She looked up at him, her voice growing even gentler. "If it's not too much trouble... could you talk to him more about my dad? The doctor said it might be a gentler way to help him recover his memories."
So it was for her grandfather... Ken immediately felt a wave of self-disgust. He had judged her way too harshly!
Hearing this, Alistair gave a slight nod. "I understand. I'll make a point of it next time."
Celia finally smiled, bowing deeply to him. "Thank you so much. It's been so long since I've seen Grandpa this lucid. He's forgotten so many people, but he still remembers you. You must mean the world to him."
Alistair lowered his eyes, his gaze landing on her once more. He noticed the fresh tear tracks still glistening on her cheeks.
