The Platonic Trap novel Chapter 140

Stepping out of the car, Alistair frowned as he watched her retreating figure, his eyes brooding.

Ken had also gotten out. Seeing Celia run off, he nervously checked his boss's expression.

"Mr. Zucker... do you think Mr. Lambert is pushing Ms. Stafford too hard?"

Ken asked the question with extreme caution.

Alistair's brow creased. Keeping his gaze fixed on the empty doorway, he asked, "What do you mean?"

"When I brought Ms. Stafford her lunch today, the rest of the team had already gone to the cafeteria. Even Mr. Lambert had finished eating and come back, but she was still buried in work at her desk."

Alistair narrowed his eyes, his gaze turning glacial.

"Just now, Ms. Stafford said those were work texts. Do you think Mr. Lambert is still harassing her?" Ken probed gently.

Alistair's voice dropped to a dangerous rasp. "Tell Larry Lambert that bothering employees after hours is strictly prohibited. If it happens again, he'll be paying her overtime out of his own pocket."

"Understood, Mr. Zucker."

Ken replied with utmost respect.

With that, Alistair turned and strode into the manor.

Following his orders, Ken didn't follow him inside immediately. He pulled out his work phone and drafted a message to Larry.

As the CEO's personal assistant, he had the contact information for every executive and department manager in the company.

Ken: [Mr. Lambert, Mr. Zucker would like to remind you not to disturb employees during their off-hours.]

The subtext was glaringly obvious.

Ken knew perfectly well that Alistair didn't care if people in the company knew about his connection to Celia.

So, to anyone with half a brain, receiving this message from the CEO's personal assistant meant one thing: Ms. Stafford's relationship with Mr. Zucker was not something to mess with.

—Otherwise, why would he personally relay such a "minor" warning?

But clearly, Larry had completely misinterpreted the situation.

In Larry's twisted mind, this looked like Celia had gone crying to Ken, and Ken was now using Mr. Zucker's name to throw his weight around and scare him off.

Larry: [Message received, Ken. But as an assistant, you should also remember to keep your professional and personal lives separate.]

This was a blatant "warning" to Ken that using the boss's car to pick up his "girlfriend" was an abuse of company resources.
