The Messenger( Iva) novel Chapter 105

Restless Night-T

After Avalon’s words… Sleep never came. Not even close.

Iva remained on the couch tong after the television had gone quiet, long after the screen dimmed into darkness, long after the city outside settled into the deep silence of the night.

Her body was still.

But her mind-

Her mind was a storm.

He is with another woman.

The words replayed again.

And again.

And again.

Each time cutting deeper.

Her fingers curled tightly into the fabric of the blanket as her thoughts spiraled uncontrollably.

Who is she?

The question burned.

Where is he?

Her chest tightened.

How… how could he move on so fast?

Her breathing became uneven.

Because no matter how much she tried to deny it-

What they had shared…

It hadn’t felt casual.

It hadn’t felt meaningless.

It had consumed her.

Body.

Mind.

Soul.

And yet…

<Restless Night-

For him?

Her heart trembled painfully at the thought.

Maybe it had meant nothing.

Maybe she had just been-

Convenient. In heat.

Her throat tightened.

Her gaze drifted slowly to the clock on the wall.

1:03 AM.

Still no sign of him.

The silence of the penthouse now felt suffocating.

Her hand reached instinctively toward the phone resting on the table.

She picked it up slowly.

Her thumb hovered over the screen.

A message.

She could send a message.

Just one.

Her heart beat faster.

“What do I even say…” she whispered weakly.

Inside her mind, Avalon stirred.

“Ask him.”

A simple answer.

Too simple.

Iva shook her head faintly.

“Avalon…”

Her voice cracked slightly.

“He is the Lycan Crown Prince.”

Her grip tightened around the phone.

“I am nobody.”

Avalon’s reaction was immediate. Furious.

You are his mate!”

The roar echoed inside her mind.

Raw.

Protective.

Demanding.

But Iva only closed her eyes briefly.

Shaking her head.

Defeated.

“T-that doesn’t matter…”

Her voice was quieter now.

More fragile.

“If we learned anything after everything with Nick…”

The name alone tasted bitter.

“…it’s that we can’t force someone to want us.”

Her fingers trembled slightly.

“Or love us.”

A long silence followed.

Heavy.

Painful.

“Fated or not.”

The phone slowly lowered back to the table.

Unsent.

And the hours passed.

Slow.

Agonizing.

Endless.

At some point, exhaustion finally dragged her into a shallow, restless sleep.

The last thing she remembered-

The clock reading 4:12 AM.

Then-

The alarm.

6:00 AM.

The sharp sound cut through the silence like a blade.

Iva groaned softly, her body protesting as she forced her eyes open.

For a moment-

She didn’t move.

Her gaze drifted slowly across the room.

The empty space beside the bed.

The untouched surroundings.

The silence.

And then it hit her.

He hadn’t come back.

Not at all.

Her chest tightened painfully.

She reached for her phone.

Hope flickered.

Just for a second.

Maybe-

A message.

A missed call.

Anything.

Her fingers unlocked the screen.

Nothing.

No messages.

No calls.

Claim

Restless Night-1.

No signs:

Just emptiness.

A dull ache spread through her chest.

“… of course,” she whispered bitterly.

She swallowed hard and forced herself to sit up.

“It’s time to go to work.”

The words felt mechanical.

Detached.

Her body moved on autopilot as she got ready, wearing the same set of clothes she had washed the day before-the only ones she had left, as she added a note in her mind to visit a thrift shop at the end of the day; she needed clothes.

Her movements were slower than usual.

Heavier.

Like she was dragging something invisible behind her.

Once ready, she made her way downstairs.

Expecting-

James.

The car.

Something.

But when she stepped outside…

Nothing.

No car.

No familiar presence.

Just the cold morning air and the distant hum of the waking city.

Iva frowned slightly, looking left.

Then right.

Confusion flickered across her face.

“Where is he…?”

No answer came.

She stood there for a moment longer before exhaling softly.

“Of course…”

Claim

She shouldn’t have expected anything else. Probably James was just for the first days to get familiar with the place and location.
