The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 94

She was almost at the door when Sigrid shot up from her chair, panicking. "Wait! How much money will it take for you to sell it? Double the price, will that do?"

Garnett's brow furrowed imperceptibly.

Zoey slowly turned around. "Oh, so the busty lady is the one calling the shots."

She sauntered back over to Sigrid, raising a hand to tilt her chin up, speaking with a predatory gleam in her eye. "This guy of yours has no spine. Why don't you ditch him and come work for me?"

Sigrid slapped her hand away. Garnett shot a look at his bodyguard. The mercenary lunged forward, attempting to ambush Zoey from behind.

But Zoey slipped through the gap of the bodyguard's closing arms like a fish in water. In a blur of motion, she sidestepped and ended up right behind him.

She moved so fast it was hard to track. By the time anyone processed what was happening, the massive bodyguard was pinned by the slender woman. She drove her knee into the back of his neck, and with a flash of cold steel, a butterfly knife pierced straight through the mercenary's right palm. He let out a bloodcurdling scream.

Zoey leaned close to his ear, whispering something low in Portuguese. All the color drained from the man's face.

Her expression remained completely blank as she smoothly yanked the bloody blade out, snapped it shut, and slipped it into her suit pocket.

"Next time we meet, I hope you remember your manners, Mr. Harper," she smirked dismissively, turning on her heel and walking out.

The bodyguard scrambled up, swearing furiously. Garnett understood enough Portuguese to catch the gist.

The mercenary stammered that the woman was raised in the Brazilian slums and was a top-tier enforcer for an overseas syndicate. Had he known who he was dealing with, he never would have taken the job.

Garnett walked over to the window and looked down. The woman was being escorted into a luxury van by two men in black suits before speeding off.

Resting his hand on the windowsill, he quietly curled his fingers into a tight fist.

Corinne's phone suddenly dinged with a notification, making her jump out of her skin.

She glanced at the screen, stammering, "Mr. Harper, that woman says she'll meet with you alone tomorrow. The location is... it looks like a casino."

Sigrid was genuinely terrified now. Tears welling in her eyes, she pleaded, "Garnett, let's just drop it. We don't need the house. Let's just go back to Blossom City."

Garnett's jaw tightened. This wasn't about the house anymore. These people were targeting him directly. They had clashed several times now, and he had lost every single round.

"We're out of groceries. Let's stop by the supermarket first," he said gently.

Lavinia paused. "Okay." She debated with herself for a moment before adding, "I need to take tomorrow morning off."

"Why?" he asked, his tone laced with genuine concern, devoid of any judgment.

"I have to get a medical checkup," she mumbled.

"Are you feeling sick?"

"It's just a routine physical," she replied softly. "Don't worry, I'm perfectly fine."

He stopped walking and looked at her.

Three seconds passed before he finally spoke. "Alright."
