Ethan stood at the door of the small office and shouted: "Lavinia, come in for a minute."
Lavinia saved the half-written report and hurried in.
"That boss from Fluvia State looked at another piece of land last time. The spiritual energy consultant said this one is pretty good." Ethan paused, "But another company also has their eye on it, and the boss is someone you know well."
"Who?"
"Garnett Harper."
Lavinia was silent for two seconds.
"That piece of land isn't Harper Group's first choice, is it? I recall they had three backups." She said.
"It is a backup, but their lawyer has already sent a letter saying we're stalling the process." Ethan rubbed his temples, "Go coordinate with him and see if you can persuade him to yield."
Lavinia wanted to refuse. But on second thought, she realized a hard truth.
Doing business in this city meant inevitably dealing with the largest private conglomerate, Harper Group.
Garnett was practically the economic emperor of this city. Avoiding him was impossible unless she quit the industry.
Lavinia walked to the window, dug out Garnett's number. Her fingertip hovered for a moment, then pressed down.
Garnett answered immediately, his voice warm: "Lavinia, you finally called me."
"I'm looking for you because of that piece of land in the development zone," she said.
"I'm eating out, come over." He gave her the address.
"We can just talk over the phone."
"Things can't be explained clearly on the phone. If you really want the land, come over." He hung up after saying that.
Lavinia had no choice but to grab the documents and take a cab over.
The waiter led her into the private room. Garnett hadn't arrived yet.
She sat on the sofa and waited for a while. Familiar footsteps came from outside, then the door was pushed open. Garnett strode in, looking like he had rushed over from some social engagement.
"Serve the food." Garnett shook out his napkin and laid it on his lap.
"Why did you leave without saying goodbye last time?" He looked at her and asked coolly.
"Family emergency." Lavinia kept a straight face.
"What kind of emergency required you to leave overnight?" He looked at her, "If it wasn't for work, would you never take the initiative to contact me?"
Lavinia didn't answer his question and forcibly pulled the topic back to business: "That piece of land is just a backup site for Harper Group. The boss from Fluvia State only has his eye on this one, it's his top choice. Could Mr. Harper please step aside?"
"Since you are asking, of course." Garnett picked up the teapot and poured a drink for Lavinia, "Eat first."
