Lavinia stared right at Garnett. "Fine. We're negotiating terms, right? Does that mean I can ask for whatever I want?"
"As long as it's within my power, name it," Garnett said, crossing his arms, oozing confidence.
"Okay." She kept her eyes locked on his. "You said you've paid back whatever you owed Sigrid. Once you pay back everything you owe me, I'll forgive you."
Charley's hand shifted slightly under the table.
Garnett's eyes darkened. "What do I owe you?"
Lavinia laughed.
"You don't know what you owe me? Alright, let me jog your memory."
She stood up, biting out every single word:
"While I was standing outside the ICU signing consent forms, I looked up and saw you on the news, watching fireworks in Marina Island with Sigrid."
"When my uncle was in surgery, you didn't show up. But when Sigrid had a fever, you stayed by her hospital bed."
"I waited desperately for a pill to save a family member's life, and you lazily pawned the task off to your secretary. And the pill I finally got was fake."
"One phone call from Sigrid, and you kicked me out of the car on the side of the highway. Do you have any idea how hard it was raining that day?"
"I was running all over India begging for medicine, and you were acting as a pallbearer at Sigrid's father's funeral while telling me you were on a business trip."
"Tobin poured a glass of wine all over me on purpose, and instead of helping, you came over just to call me cheap before walking away hand-in-hand with your precious Sigrid."
"I finally found a job, and you let Sigrid ostracize me at the company because you wanted to force me to crawl back to you on my knees."
"You gave me a 20,000 monthly allowance and acted like it was some divine charity. Did you know I had to write academic papers for extra cash just to afford groceries?"
