The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 303

The shareholder meeting was held in the top-floor conference room of the Harper Group headquarters.

Financial media cameras were set up at the back of the room, their lenses focused on the massive mahogany table.

Two rows of executives in crisp suits sat on either side, staring at the agendas and bottled water in front of them. No one moved.

Nestor Harper sat at the head of the table. He leaned back in his chair, his gaze sweeping over everyone in the room before finally landing on his son.

Garnett sat directly opposite him, a file open on the table, not meeting his father's eyes.

"Everyone is here," Nestor stated. "Let's begin."

According to the agenda, they started with the annual report, followed by the financial resolutions, moving through the procedures item by item.

The final item on the agenda: the election of the new chairman of the board.

Votes were collected. Counted. The adjudicator walked to the front of the room with the results.

"This shareholder meeting required the presence of seventeen voting representatives; seventeen are present. The voting results for the election of the chairman are as follows—"

He paused.

"Mr. Garnett Harper, nine votes."

Nestor's fingers stopped tapping on the table.

"Mr. Nestor Harper, seven votes. One abstention."

"Mr. Garnett Harper is elected as the new Chairman of the Board!"

Silence. Then someone started clapping—a few scattered claps at first, before it swelled into a steady roar.

In this ruthless battle between father and son, the son had finally dethroned the father.

The live broadcast camera zoomed in on Garnett's face. He stood up, buttoned his suit jacket, and gave a slight nod to the room.

Nestor stood up. He looked at Garnett, then extended his hand.

"Congratulations, son."

Garnett took it. The two hands gripped tightly, the pressure immense.

Lucian Roche walked up to Garnett and offered his hand. "A pleasure doing business with you, Mr. Harper."

"The pleasure is mine," Garnett smiled faintly.

Tobin Jensen sidled up, grinning. "Mr. Harper, I hope we can look out for each other moving forward."
