Garnett was about to enter the house carrying several bags of gifts when the butler, Preston, stopped him.

"Mr. Harper, please hand those to me. The old Mrs. Gilmore still doesn't wish to see you," the butler said respectfully.

This Preston had been sent over by Julian Gilmore from the secondary branch of the family. He was a veteran of the Gilmore family and fiercely loyal. He didn't care who Garnett was; he only took orders from Judith.

Garnett sighed in frustration. "Preston, I just want to drop these off, take a quick look at my grandmother from a distance, and leave."

With that, he stepped forward to head inside.

Preston raised an arm to block him. "Mr. Harper, please don't make this difficult for me."

Garnett looked at the stubborn old butler. As annoyed as he was, he had to keep a polite smile. After all, the man represented the Gilmore family.

"You're an elder, why would I want to give you a hard time?" Garnett smiled. "Then I'll trouble you to pass these to my grandmother. I'll come visit her another time."

Preston nodded, his face expressionless. "Understood."

Garnett returned to the car, where Sigrid was sitting in the passenger seat scrolling through her phone.

"She still won't see you?" she asked with concern, noting his dark expression.

Garnett didn't reply.

Sigrid paused, letting out a sigh.

"Is she still furious? Honestly, you can't be blamed for this. You were kept in the dark too."

Garnett's fingers tightened around the steering wheel before relaxing.

"Her anger is lasting a lot longer than usual this time." His voice was slightly hoarse. "No matter how mad she gets, she wouldn't normally force me to sign a divorce agreement."

He glanced sideways at the Gilmore family's estate.

"I've signed the papers, and she still refuses to see me," he said, pulling his gaze away.

Sigrid furrowed her brows slightly, as if deep in thought. After a few seconds, she spoke softly. "Garnett, you might not like hearing this, but I feel like there's more to this."

Garnett looked at her.

Sigrid lowered her eyes. "Judith has always doted on you. Even if she's angry, she wouldn't be this ruthless. Unless..."
