The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 225

"You're quitting?"

Jocelyn Chandler stared at the resignation form in her hand, then looked up at Lavinia.

Lavinia stood in front of her desk and nodded. "There's a time to be stubborn, and a time to let go."

Jocelyn didn't say a word.

Lavinia knew that Jocelyn also understood there was no point in holding out any longer.

"What are your plans? Going back to being Mrs. Harper?" Jocelyn raised an eyebrow.

Lavinia laughed. "Honestly, that doesn't sound like a terrible idea."

"Exactly. Why kill yourself in the corporate rat race when you can just coast?"

They exchanged sarcastic quips, both understanding the underlying frustration.

Lavinia felt a slight twinge of regret.

Jocelyn was her first boss, and the first female friend she had made since starting work.

Jocelyn picked up her pen, signed her name on the resignation report, and handed it back.

"You can take this to HR and process the paperwork."

"Thank you." Lavinia took the paper, glancing down at it.

She felt a little wronged. Not a lot, just a little.

The resignation process was incredibly fast. It was all wrapped up in a single afternoon.

Since she was just a low-level employee, all it required was the department head's signature, payroll settlement from HR, and surrendering her keycard.

It wasn't until she was about to leave the office that Ethan heard the news.

"Fearless Lavinia, are you really leaving? It's only been a month," Ethan said.

"Yeah, the Renova project is going to the investment committee in a few days. Who knows, things might turn around," another colleague chimed in.

Lavinia smiled. "I'm just a nobody. I did my best; the outcome is out of my hands now."

A collective sigh echoed through the room.

Everyone knew Lavinia had crossed Mr. Coleman, and staying at Celestial would just be a waste of time.

Their words were merely expressions of sympathy.

Ethan spoke up, "Lavinia, don't be so headstrong in the future. The corporate world isn't worth it."

By the time Lavinia arrived, Sigrid was already waiting in a private room.

Lavinia flashed a bright smile. "Sigrid, what's with the great mood today?"

Sigrid's eyes darted over her face. She pursed her lips, lowered her eyelashes, and poured Lavinia a cup of hot tea.

Lavinia sat across from her. Ignoring the tea, she poured herself a cup of chilled sake and downed it in one go.

"Delicious," Lavinia remarked.

"Did you really quit?" Sigrid asked.

"I sure did. The paperwork just cleared. Who told you?"

Sigrid pressed her lips together. "Ms. Chandler told me."

That afternoon, Sigrid had bumped into Jocelyn in the office.

Jocelyn had not only broken the news but had also added a sarcastic jab: "You tried every dirty trick in the book to squeeze her out, and now you have. She lost her job and said she's going back to being Mrs. Harper."

For Sigrid, those words hit like a bolt of lightning.

"Honestly, your performance review had absolutely nothing to do with me or Garnett. You blamed him yesterday, and he feels incredibly wronged by it," Sigrid said in a soft, gentle voice.
