The moment Garnett and Sigrid walked in, they became the undisputed center of attention.
They strolled through the room arm in arm, exchanging pleasantries with the guests. They looked completely inseparable, the very picture of soulmates.
Charley extended his arm, looking down at Lavinia.
"What is it?" she asked, looking back at him.
"Take my arm. Let's go say hello."
Saul extended his arm too. "Take mine as well. We'll go together."
Lavinia smiled. Linking arms with both of them, the trio made their way toward the golden couple.
"Well, if it isn't Mr. Harper and Ms. Sloan. Good to see you," Saul greeted first.
Garnett turned around. The first thing his eyes locked onto was Lavinia, radiant in her lake-blue evening gown.
She looked breathtaking, completely overshadowing every other woman in the room.
With Saul on her left and Charley on her right—two exceptionally striking men flanking her—the already tall Lavinia looked surprisingly delicate and petite.
"Saul, congratulations," Sigrid said, breaking the silence. "I heard you secured your funding and made the Provincial Vanguard SME list. Banks and investors are going to be chasing you down to give you money now."
"I know, right?" Saul said mildly. "Who would have thought? Just last month, someone was making calls trying to get my bank loans pulled."
Hearing that, Lavinia's eyes turned icy as she stared directly at Garnett.
Garnett didn't flinch. He said coolly, "Mrs. Harper, parading around with other men before the ink is even dry on the divorce papers goes against that highly moral image you love to project."
Lavinia smiled sharply. "Mr. Harper, is the woman on your arm your legal wife?"
Garnett's eyes darkened instantly.
A flash of awkwardness crossed Sigrid's face. She looked as if she didn't know whether to pull her arm away or keep it there.
She let out a laugh. "You just secured tens of millions in funding, and you still couldn't get your own custom suit made?"
"I spend my life either in the lab or the factory," Saul countered. "Who am I dressing up for? The machinery?"
As the two of them started bantering, Charley discretely nudged Lavinia's elbow, signaling her to step away with him for a moment.
Lavinia quietly slipped out of the venue, following Charley.
The area just outside the hotel was designed as a tranquil traditional garden. It was incredibly serene.
The lawn lights flanking the stone path were kept low, casting just enough light to illuminate the ground at their feet.
The air was perfectly still, the bamboo groves motionless. A faint, sweet scent of Chinese perfume plants drifted through the night air, though it was impossible to tell where it was coming from.
"You don't seem upset today," Charley noted.
"With you and Saul here, what do I have to be upset about?" she smiled. "By the way, are you trying to play matchmaker for Saul and Jocelyn?"
